BACKGROUND
IUCN is a Membership Union uniquely composed of both government and civil society organizations. IUCN Sri Lanka’s programs support sustainable natural resource management initiatives of Members and Partners.

To support effective project delivery in terms of efficient and effective management of financial resources, donor reporting, bookkeeping and audit support, IUCN seeks a suitable candidate for the position of Finance Associate. H/She will be locally recruited and be part of the IUCN corporate team.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager, the Finance Associate plays an important role in in supporting the general accounting functions of the Sri Lanka Finance Unit, working as a team to :
- Maintain and update general accounting records and files
- Process payments to vendors and staff in line with IUCN policies, procedures, internal controls and generally accepted accounting principles
- Manage petty cash, including safe custody of cash on hand and regular reconciliations
- Manage inter-company payments and other transactions
- Provide documentation for internal and external audits

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Ensure completeness of supporting documents for all financial transactions. All financial transactions must be made in accordance with IUCN policies and procedures and donor requirements.
• Process all payments to vendors, staff and partners ensuring compliance with IUCN policies and internal controls
• Act as the custodian of petty cash, process petty cash payments and ensure that cash receipts are supported by relevant documentation, reconcile petty cash on monthly basis and arrange petty cash replenishments and maintain agreed level of cash in hand for disbursements
• Prepare Bank and petty cash reconciliations on monthly basis and assist with reconciliation of other balance sheet accounts and upload them to the NAV checklist
• Review and process staff expense and travel claims, ensuring compliance with IUCN policies and guidelines; coordinate with staff on any related issues or supporting documents Manage cash or cheque receipts from staff and third parties, process receipt vouchers and issue official receipts
• Record sales invoices in the ERP system
• Assist in providing supporting documents, vouchers, etc., to facilitate donor and audit requirements
• Update and maintain assets register and inventory database in ERP
• Assist in processing month-end and year-end closing entries.
• Process Inter Company transactions and submit related debit/credit notes as appropriate.
• Carry out any other responsibilities entrusted by the supervisor from time to time.

REQUIREMENTS
• Education:

• A University Degree in a relevant discipline is required. Qualification from a recognized accounting body (at least Intermediate Level) with an additional 3 years of experience will be considered in lieu of a Degree.

Experience:

• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience of which two (2) years should be in a similar position
• Prior experience working in donor-funded or international organizations is an advantage.

Competencies:

• Meticulous attention to detail
• High level of personal integrity
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including timely and professional written and verbal communication
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and to take initiative within defined responsibilities.
• Ability to travel to project sites
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours

Computer and Technical Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to use web-based platforms.

Language
• Excellent language skills in English and Sinhala (writing, speaking and reading) and a working knowledge of Tamil would be an advantage
SALARY
The minimum gross annual salary for this position is LKR 3'086'160. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
