Research Investigator (Internal#105/2026)

The Gut-Brain Axis (GBA) Laboratory under the Infectious Diseases Division (IDD) conducts clinical, epidemiological, immunological, genomic, and laboratory-based translational research to advance the understanding of infectious diseases and generate evidence to strengthen their prevention and control, particularly in low-resource settings.

Position Description:
The Research Investigator will report to the Principal Investigator (PI) and will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing research activities, in accordance with the approved research protocol. The specific areas of responsibility include:

  • Lead and coordinate project research activities, ensuring alignment with objectives and timelines;
  • Generate new research ideas and formulate research questions with a focus on infectious diseases to address true disease burden and investigate to reduce exposures;
  • Track study progress, patient enrollment, ensure follow-up, co-ordinate with laboratory personnel’s, and provide feedback for ongoing process improvement;
  • Analyze clinical and laboratory data, prepare scientific reports, and present findings to the PI for input and guidance;
  • Prepare reports and PowerPoint presentations, and share findings with the PI and donor agencies to ensure activities are executed in accordance with the project plan;
  • Supervise multidisciplinary teams, ensuring quality implementation, protocol adherence, and data integrity;
  • Train junior research staff in biostatistics, data interpretation, and data analysis;
  • Provide comprehensive training, supervision, and continuous monitoring to ensure the quality of data collection;
  • Apply critical analysis and conduct rigorous scientific analysis to derive meaningful inferences;
  • Conduct data analyses to achieve study objectives and prepare reports and manuscripts to disseminate research findings;
  • Provide input to the PIs in scientific and technical activities, including manuscript writing, publication, and proposal development for funding.
  • Maintain clear documentation of field observations and clinical and laboratory databases to support continuous monitoring;

Required Qualification and Experience:

  • MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with one year of completed internship training and a valid BMDC registration.
  • Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) and Advanced knowledge of applied statistics or a relevant field will be given preference.
  • At least 3 years of working experience in public health with strong interpersonal and excellent communication and writing skills in English.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with at least one first-author publication in an international peer-reviewed journal.

Contract Type and Duration:

  • Short-Term; duration will be 08 months with a possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Tk.140,750/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances; Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
