Background

Under the Belgium-Mozambique cooperation programme, Enabel is implementing climate resilience and disaster risk reduction initiatives in Mozambique. As part of these efforts, Enabel supports disaster preparedness, community-based early warning systems, resilient shelter approaches, and recovery planning in disaster-prone districts of Nampula Province.

To strengthen field implementation, Enabel is looking for a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Field Officer based in Nampula, with regular travel to project districts across the province.

Job description

As DRR Field Officer, you will serve as Enabel’s field representative in Nampula Province, supporting the implementation of disaster preparedness and resilience activities at community and district levels. Your main responsibilities will include:

• Supporting disaster preparedness, resilient shelter and community-based early warning activities.
• Working closely with communities, local authorities and the Provincial Delegation of INGD.
• Supporting the establishment and strengthening of local disaster risk management committees.
• Monitoring field activities and reporting progress, challenges and lessons learned.
• Facilitating coordination meetings and stakeholder engagement at provincial and district levels.
• Contributing to inclusive approaches that ensure the participation of women, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
• Preparing field reports, site documentation and photographic records.

Your profile

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Adaptation, Rural Development, Social Sciences, Environmental or Civil Engineering, Development Studies, or a related field

Required experience

• At least 2 years of professional experience in disaster risk management, climate resilience, preparedness, or community development.
• Experience working with local authorities, communities, or disaster management structures.
• Experience conducting field activities in rural or remote areas.

Required skills and knowledge

• Good understanding of Mozambique's disaster risk management system and the role of INGD.
• Strong facilitation and community engagement skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage field activities effectively.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
• Fluency in Portuguese and working knowledge of English.
• Proficiency in MS Office and common collaboration tools
• Fluency in Portuguese and a good working knowledge of English
