ECHA/TRN/2027/015 - Water and Alternative Methods Unit (P3)

The Water and Alternative Methods Unit comprises three teams: the Water Protection team, the Alternative Methods team and the Drinking Water Directive (DWD) team. The trainee position is relevant to the DWD team which is tasked with the implementation of the parts of Article 11 of the directive that apply to the European positive list of starting substances, compositions and constituents.

Assignment

In this traineeship you will have the unique opportunity to acquire expertise in our regulatory work, such as:

  • Support the implementation of Article 11 of the DWD (the main task for the trainee). This may involve support to the evaluation of the chemical identification of substances that are notified and applied-for at ECHA as part of DWD notifications of intention and DWD applications submitted to ECHA. The evaluation of the chemical identification of substances includes the evaluation of chemical composition and analytical data for mono- and multi- constituent substances, Unknown or Variable composition, Complex reaction products, or Biological materials (UVCBs), polymers, metallic and inorganic compositions;
  • Support the maintenance of IUCLID templates, IUCLID manuals and guidance documents that support the DWD process;
  • Participate in testing of IT tools relevant to the processing of DWD notifications of intention and DWD applications submitted to ECHA.

The work may include some other tasks related to the main assignment.

Profile

  • Completed university studies at least to bachelor’s degree level in the fields of chemistry and materials science, or similar;
  • Previous experience with the IUCLID software would be an asset;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Aptitude for teamwork;
  • Good English skills both written and spoken are required (as this is the working language of the Agency).
