Overview

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.

CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

We are a highly diverse team of enthusiastic individuals across 40 countries with a broad range of skill sets and life experiences. CHAI is deeply grounded in the countries we work in, with the majority of our staff based in program countries. Learn more about our exciting work: http://www.clintonhealthaccess.org

CHAI values diversity and inclusion, and recognizes that our mission is best advanced by the leadership and contributions of people with diverse experience, backgrounds, and culture.

Position Overview

CHAI is seeking a resourceful, self-directed Analyst to help build its malaria work in Senegal. Reporting to the Associate and Country Director, the Analyst will help establish CHAI’s partnership with the National Malaria Control Program (PNLP) and other Ministry of Health directorates. They will identify where CHAI can add the most value and help raise the funding needed to grow the portfolio.

The program is still taking shape, so the Analyst will help lay its foundations. They will map the donor and partner landscape, analyse programmatic and epidemiological data to set priorities, and contribute to concept notes and proposals. They will also help shape CHAI Senegal’s malaria strategy together with CHAI’s regional and global malaria teams. In addition, the Analyst will provide targeted support to Health Systems Strengthening efforts, particularly digital tools used in mass malaria campaigns such as seasonal malaria chemo prevention and bed net distribution.

The ideal candidate builds trusted relationships with government counterparts, writes clearly and persuasively, and is comfortable setting their priorities in a changing environment. The role is expected to grow as the malaria portfolio develops, which makes it a strong opportunity for someone eager to take on more responsibility over time.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with the Malaria Program and other Ministry of Health directorates involved in the fight against malaria.
  • Identify, in collaboration with the Malaria Program, the gaps, priorities, and opportunities where CHAI could provide technical or financial support.
  • Map the landscape of donors and technical partners active on malaria in Senegal.
  • Contribute to drafting concept notes, project proposals, and advocacy documents aimed at mobilizing funding for CHAI's malaria program in Senegal.
  • Support the development of CHAI Senegal's strategy and positioning on malaria, in coordination with CHAI's regional and global malaria team.
  • Participate in technical meetings, working groups, and national coordination forums related to malaria.
  • Support the collection, analysis, and synthesis of relevant programmatic and epidemiological data to guide program priorities.
  • Provide occasional support on Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) initiatives, particularly in digital health, in coordination with CHAI's Digital Health team and as part of mass campaigns against malaria (seasonal chemo prevention, bed net distribution, etc.).
  • Contribute to preparing presentations and progress updates for internal CHAI teams and external partners.
  • Ensure rigorous follow-up on commitments made to the Malaria Program and partners, and report regularly to CHAI Senegal's leadership.
  • Document lessons learned and contribute to knowledge-sharing with CHAI's other malaria programs in the region.
  • Travel within the country as needed, for meetings with the Malaria Program, partners, and field teams.
  • Contribute to any other task assigned by the Country Director or the program lead, as the role will continue to evolve alongside the development of the malaria portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Bac+3/4) at minimum; a Master's-level degree in public health, social sciences, management, economics, or a related field is an asset.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in public health, international development, consulting, or resource mobilization.
  • Experience with engaging government counterparts (Ministry of Health, national programs) and to build trusted relationships over time.
  • Experience with drafting project proposals, concept notes, or documents intended for donors.
  • Good understanding of public health issues in West Africa; knowledge of malaria or infectious disease control programs is an asset.
  • Interest in Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) and/or initial experience with digitalization projects for health tools or campaigns.
  • Excellent analytical, synthesis, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, in a still loosely structured and evolving environment.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, able to define their priorities, and quick to adapt to new directions.
  • Fluency in written and spoken French; a good professional level of English is required for exchanges with CHAI's regional and global teams.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Availability for travels within Senegal.
