Organizational Context and Scope

In Türkiye’s East, Southeast, and Mediterranean (ESEM) Region, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) implements a wide range of programming aimed at supporting migrants, refugees, and host communities, while contributing to protection, resilience, social cohesion, sustainable livelihoods, and effective migration management.

Under the overall supervision of the National Media and Communications Officer (Head of Public Information) in Ankara and direct supervision of the National Communications Officer in Gaziantep, the Senior Communications Associate will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of communications and multimedia materials and activities on IOM’s work in the ESEM Region.

  1. Support the development and implementation of IOM’s communication and visibility activities under the supervision of the National Communications Officer.
  2. Produce and package high-quality multimedia content, including human-interest stories, photographs, videos, social media content, and other communication materials for IOM’s internal and external communication channels.
  3. Draft, coordinate, and consolidate communication inputs for donor reports and other visibility products, maintaining compliance with IOM branding and donor visibility requirements and high-quality storytelling in close coordination with the National Communications Officer.
  4. Prepare visual communication materials, including social media assets, presentations, reports, and other visibility products, in line with IOM branding and donor visibility requirements.
  5. Conduct field visits, as required, to collect and produce communication materials highlighting IOM’s activities, beneficiaries, and programme results.
  6. Coordinate with programme staff to gather information, follow up on communication needs, and support timely and quality audio-visual documentation.
  7. Review communication products and support the tracking and application of donor visibility requirements in line with IOM branding, editorial standards, and donor visibility requirements.
  8. Maintain and organize the mission’s digital asset library and communication files, keeping audio-visual materials and visibility products properly archived and accessible.
  9. Support the planning and implementation of events, campaigns, visits, and other communication-related activities.
  10. Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support to junior staff, as required.
  11. Perform such relevant other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communication, development communication, social sciences, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with four years of relevant professional experience; or
  • High school diploma with six years of relevant professional experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Proven experience in communications and media work, preferably in the development and humanitarian sector;
  • Experience in developing publications and promotional materials, such as infographics, is an advantage;
  • Experience assisting with public events and preparing human interest stories, photo essays, and video stories;Strong familiarity with managing and publishing content on social media platforms;
  • Strong preference will be given to multilingual candidates (English, Turkish, and/or Arabic); Experience in translating documents and providing interpretation during meetings between the above three languages is an advantage; and
  • Willingness to assume duties and responsibilities in all aspects of media and communications, as needed.

Skills

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including developing human interest stories, social media captions, and other communication content;
  • Proven photography and videography skills;
  • Ability to manage social media accounts for reputable organizations; and
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, Audition, Illustrator, and/or InDesign is an asset.

Languages

All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).

For this position, fluency in English and Turkish or Arabic is required (oral and written).

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
