The Team

The Communications Division, led by the Chief Communications Officer, oversees the foundation’s global communications strategy. The division brings together internal and external communications to advance the foundation’s mission to create a more equitable world.

The Campaign Planning & Channels Management team brings the foundation’s mission to life through compelling storytelling, events, and integrated campaigns that build trust in the foundation’s reputation and inspire more people to care about and support our mission. This team leads the foundation’s flagship external communications platforms, including the website: gatesfoundation.org, newsletter: The Optimist, and enterprise-wide social media channels.

Your Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Strategist, you will support the implementation of social media engagement strategies that advance the foundation’s advocacy and brand goals. This team manages the foundation’s global flagship channels (@Gatesfoundation) -- across LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Threads, and TikTok. As an ACO on this team, you’ll be supporting the development of social media content across these channels in alignment with our social media strategy. This could include: writing creative and content briefs and cross-channel promotion plans. The ideal candidate has experience working across multiple campaign strategies at the same time and the flexibility to assist on a variety of new projects and priorities. You also have a general interest in developing content for online audiences.

What You’ll Do

  • Support platform-specific social media strategies that ladder up to broader social, channels, and communications strategies.
  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of priority foundation social media channels, including working closely with producers and agencies to develop content, writing and/or reviewing captions, and in some cases having a hand in creative production directly.
  • Support development of creative briefs as required, coordinating with various communications agencies to act as their primary point of contact for social media plans while working closely with our Global Brand Experience team to ensure the development of creative content.
  • Coordinate with cross-divisional content, brand, channels, and audience engagement teams in the development, revision, and/or refinement of brand strategies.
  • Collaborate with agencies/contractors to develop and review social media content, ensuring clear and timely feedback.
  • Stay up to date with platform trends, high-performing formats, and cultural moments to reach and engage our audience.
  • Monitor and engage with comments, questions, and mentions across the foundation’s social channels to foster meaningful two-way conversations that build an understanding of the foundation’s work and trust.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.

Your Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated experience, preferably in communications, journalism, literature, public relations or political science.
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of internal and external partners to incorporate new information and work towards appropriate decisions and reach desired outcomes.
  • Experience with social media publishing tools (e.g. Opal, Sprinklr, Sprout Social)
  • Basic knowledge of social media best practices with experience communicating about complex global and domestic issues, including poverty, health, education, climate, and gender equality.
  • Basic experience in an agency account management, creative producer, or marketing/communications role.
  • Ability to film, edit, or produce video content for our global social media channels
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud to edit social media videos or graphics
  • Project management skills

The salary range for this role is $118,200 to $177,200 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $130,000 to $195,000 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
