Germany-CGIAR++ Hub Coordinator
Overview
The Germany - CGIAR++ Science and Impact Hub – where Germany’s research networks and CGIAR++’s global reach converge to drive sustainable impact for people and planet. Germany and the CGIAR++ system (CGIAR centers - including CIFOR-ICRAF, icipe and AVRDC) share a long tradition of collaborating in development-oriented agricultural research. The Hub aims to further strengthen this partnership. It is embedded in the CGIAR Capacity Sharing Accelerator, where it creates mechanisms for stronger engagement of German science – especially early-career researchers – in CGIAR++ activities, amplifies existing collaborations, and creates new connections. The Hub’s mission is to strengthen ties between German universities, research institutions and CGIAR++ centers worldwide.
The coordinator will manage the Hub activities, ensure communication between partners and committees, plan and organize public communication networking, actively explore and pursue funding opportunities to expand the Hub and encourage network between German research institutions and CGIAR++.
Duties and responsibilities
Management of the Hub including
- Monitoring of the “Hub” project finances
- Contact person for both internal and external audit bodies
- Personnel management of the Academy
- Development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities
- Preparation of the annual call for scholars
- Screening, evaluation, and administration of incoming applications
- Coordination of application reviews
- Preparation and monitoring of contracts with scholarship holders and universities
- Supervision and monitoring of research funds (sub-recipients) and administrative handling with the funding agency
- Preparation of project reports, payment requests, and financial reports for the project sponsor
Convening and communications
- Coordination and monitoring of a teaching concept for international, development-oriented agricultural research
- Coordination and organization of teaching activities (incl. technical implementation of the web-based modules)
- Preparation, convening, implementation and follow-up of meetings of the committees (selection committee, expert committee)
- Preparation and follow-up of expert committee meetings
- Advising and supporting scholarship holders and supervising university and CGIAR scientists
Outreach and visibility
- Develop and implement a strategy for external presentation and public relations (online/social/print media)
- Ensure close coordination between ATSAF and CIFOR-ICRAF while maintaining close ties with German research institutions and the CGIAR
- Maintaining contact and networking with host CGIAR centers and universities
Communication Management of ATSAF e.V.
- Preparation and distribution of newsletters (incl. job announcements)
- General communication with members and partners
- Alignment of communication between Hub and ATSAF communication
- The Hub’s Tropentag communication strategy and liaison with GLF
Education, knowledge and experience
• Post graduate degree in relevant fields such as Management, Development studies, International relations, Agricultural sciences
• Good understanding of the research for development sector
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in project management, coordination and proposal writing
• Experience in development projects
• Experience in association management, academic administration, or event organization
• Communicating research results to multiple audiences
• The ideal candidate has already worked in the Global South
• Fully proficient in English, very good German would be an advantage
Terms and conditions
• This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency, commensurate with skills and experience.
• The appointment will be for 3 (three) years with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position, and available resources.
• The duty station will be in Bonn, Germany.
