Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Communication and Awareness Unit, in the Office of the Executive Secretary, the Consultant will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of high-quality video content aligned with the communication priorities of the CBD Secretariat. This includes overseeing and coordinating the production of video materials intended for broadcast, digital dissemination, and multimedia use. The work will directly contribute to enhancing the visibility of the Convention and its Protocols and to meeting the growing outreach needs in support of the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Duties and Responsibilities
ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. At the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, world leaders agreed on a comprehensive strategy for 'sustainable development'. The Convention on Biological Diversity was opened for signature in Rio in 1992. The Convention has three main objectives: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components, and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of genetic resources. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) is located in Montreal and is administered by the United Nations Environment Programme. Its main tasks are to arrange for and service meetings of the Conference of the Parties, including preparation of pertinent documentation, operation of the central node of the clearing-house mechanism, liaison and coordination with other international bodies and processes and, in close collaboration with these partners, the provision of technical support for the effective implementation of the Convention. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) is located in Montreal and is administered by the United Nations Environment Programme. This consultancy is located in the Convention on Biological Diversity, Office of the Executive Secretary (OES), Communication and Awareness Unit. Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Communication and Awareness Unit, the consultant will perform the following duties: • Using their own equipment, and that of the secretariat, create and develop multimedia (audio/video) content, including capturing video footage, with audio and suitable lighting and framing. • Work with members of the Communication and Awareness Unit to pitch feature stories that directly relate to CBD priorities, including content for the website, social media platforms, broadcast opportunities, and video statements by the Executive Secretary. • Draft video stories, propose edits to scripts (where applicable) and determine the best method for producing video from the script. • Ensure that any and all third-party materials (photos, video, music, etc.) used in the video deliverables are licensed or cleared for use by the Secretariat of the CBD. • Edit footage and interviews, including adding subtitles as appropriate, into a variety of video deliverables intended for broadcast, web and for use on our social media platforms. • Propose formats, technical approaches and innovations to increase the impact of video products. • Provide technical support to international and local press organizations if requested by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity as part of the coverage of official meetings or otherwise. • Develop and manage production schedules. • Recommend equipment purchases, upgrades, or replacements. • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Academic qualifications Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in media/multimedia production, production management, film making, or related area is required. A first level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in video production (both short and long formats), of which (5) years at the national and international level are required. Experience with current technical developments and production techniques is required. Working experience in high proficiency in video editing and post-production software (ex. portfolio/reel) is required. Proven ability to understand and apply project/corporate brand guidelines is required. Familiarity with issues related to the Convention on Biological Diversity and its Protocols, the UN system and other international sustainable development-related processes is required. Experience producing video content for various digital platforms is required. Knowledge of script writing and for broadcast is desirable. Skills • Advanced knowledge of the Adobe Suite particularly in the video and audio editing, mastering After Effects is required. • Knowledge of Avid Composer and the broadcasters specs is required. • Ability to work with a large or small production team is required. • Proficiency in the use of all production equipment: video camera, still camera, audio, and lighting are required. • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including effectively working with scientific and technical teams for video storytelling aimed at broad audiences. • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities is required. • Creative and digital technology skills are required. • Attention to detail, initiative, and follow through skills are required. • Sound judgement, diplomacy, and discretion is required. • Ability to work with very limited production resources to create impactful messages is required. • Knowledge of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the work of the United Nations and global affairs is desirable. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is desirable. NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
