Mission and objectives

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Through UN Women’s unique triple mandate of normative support, UN coordination on gender equality and operational activities, the UN Women China Office located in Beijing works on three thematic areas: (i) women's economic empowerment (WEE); (ii) high-quality services and social protection; and (iii) global partnerships and sustainable financing for gender equality and women’s empowerment. In addition to the above, UN Women also actively participates and contributes to various UN inter-agency processes and collaborates with UN organizations around specific programme areas.

Context

In 2026, UN Women Asia Pacific launched the Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards. A competitive process to award the private sector on leading practices in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, UN Women China is also launching a national process. The Online Volunteers will support the Partnerships team and is expected to deliver on a timely, quality and results-oriented approach to support the office’s overall efforts vis-à-vis the 2026 WEPs Awards and award ceremony.

Task Description

The Online Volunteers will support the office’s overall efforts in conducting research, analysis and logistical support in support of private sector engagement efforts particularly around the WEPs Awards. Key types of tasks will include: - Supporting the review and preliminary analysis of WEPs Awards application - Provide support in responding to WEP Awards and WEPs ceremony inquiries; - Virtually facilitating coordination with external stakeholders on the award evaluation process and WEPs ceremony preparations. While the volunteer will work remotely, the volunteer is be expected to be online for 16-20 hours per week during regular business hours and able to commit to 12 weeks for this role. The volunteer will communicate and exchange information with the team over e-mail and other channels. The volunteer will also be expected to participate in virtual team meetings and report to the Public and Private Sector Partnership Specialist.
