Position Overview

The Environmental Services Attendant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment throughout the Dorma Distribution Centre. This role involves cleaning and sanitizing storage areas, loading bays, offices, welfare facilities, equipment, and common workspaces to ensure compliance with workplace health, safety, and cleanliness standards.

The Environmental Services Attendant plays a key role in supporting operational efficiency by maintaining high standards of environmental hygiene, sanitation, and waste management in accordance with organizational policies, occupational health and safety requirements, and relevant regulatory standards. Through consistent cleaning practices and environmental upkeep, the role helps ensure safe working conditions, protects stored goods, and supports the effective functioning of warehouse and distribution processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily cleaning and upkeep of external areas including yards, loading bay aprons, access roads, perimeter zones, open storage areas, and pedestrian walkways.
  • Sweep, wash, and remove dirt, debris, mud, oil residues, and litter from outdoor work surfaces and movement routes to maintain safe and orderly grounds.
  • Clean and maintain external toilets, latrines, and outdoor handwashing stations, ensuring acceptable hygiene and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper condition of outdoor drainage systems, gutters, and open channels to prevent blockages, flooding, and pest breeding.
  • Remove waste, scrap materials, damaged pallets, packaging debris, and obsolete or unused items from external warehouse premises, in accordance with waste disposal procedures.
  • Replace trash liners and manage waste collection points located in external waste disposal zones.
  • Carry out basic grounds and landscaping maintenance, including weed removal, grass cutting, trimming of shrubs, flowers, and trees within the facility perimeter.
  • Monitor and replenish hygiene supplies (such as soap, sanitizer, and tissue paper) at designated outdoor sanitation facilities, where applicable.
  • Monitor availability and condition of cleaning tools, equipment, and consumables used for external work and report shortages or damages to the supervisor.
  • Adhere strictly to all occupational health, safety, and environmental guidelines applicable to outdoor and industrial work environments.
  • Wear, use, and care for assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times while performing duties.
  • Identify and promptly report safety hazards, structural defects, drainage issues, spillages, pest activity, or environmental risks within external areas.
  • Respond promptly to urgent cleaning needs or environmental incidents occurring in outdoor areas or around the facility perimeter.
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with warehouse staff, supervisors, contractors, and visitors encountered in external work areas.
  • Work collaboratively with environmental services and operations teams to support overall site cleanliness and safety objectives.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor or operations focal person as operational needs arise.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Education:
  • WASSCE/or certification in waste management, environmental hygiene, or Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) will be an added advantage.

  • Experience:
    • 2+ years of experience as an Environmental Services Attendant, or a similar role, with hands-on implementation experience at Warehouse facilities in Sierra Leone
    • Familiar with waste handling procedures and safety practices is a plus
