The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Thailand implements a range of national and regional projects aimed at addressing migration challenges and delivering increased protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants in partnership with government, civil society, and private sector counterparts.
The mission’s Protection and Border Governance Unit (PBGU) collaborates with national and international partners to address migration challenges, strengthen border management systems, and safeguard the rights and well-being of migrants. Through research, policy interventions, capacity-building and outreach, these projects aim to develop sustainable solutions to reduce systemic vulnerabilities and to provide increased support to vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking, internally displaced persons, refugees, asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors, and exploited and abused migrants.
Under the project Enhancing the Capacity of Thailand to Combat Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants through Enhanced Border Management, funded by the Government of Canada, PBGU supports government, civil society, and private‑sector partners through training and knowledge‑sharing activities. These include initiatives focusing on migration management, protection of vulnerable migrants, victim identification, and inter‑agency coordination. The intern will support project objectives, primarily reducing threats from human trafficking and migrant smuggling syndicates (including those linked to cyber scam compounds) to affected populations, including men and women, boys, girls or persons with diverse orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) in Southeast Asia.
Support community outreach activities including the organization of multi‑stakeholder coordination meetings, such as provincial protection committees or thematic working groups, by preparing briefing notes, attendance records, and follow‑up action trackers.
Travel as necessary with the PBGU team within Thailand to support the capacity building and community outreach activities.
Assist with administrative coordination for project implementation, providing general clerical support and logistical arrangement for meetings, training sessions, and consultation activities including venue coordination, travel support, documentation for payments and reimbursements, and participant communication.
Perform any other tasks that may be assigned to support the Canada funded project and PBGU operations.
