Organizational Setting
The FAO Liaison Office in Japan is based in Yokohama, Japan. It undertakes a range of activities aimed at facilitating information exchange, fostering mutual understanding, and promoting collaboration between FAO and the people of Japan on issues related to global food security and nutrition. In this context, the Office maintains close and continuous interaction with key government ministers, national and international organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic and research institutions, private sector entities, and the general public. To this end, the primary focus of the Office is to communicate and disseminate information on FAO and its activities, including the current global food and agriculture situation, with the aim of raising awareness among the Japanese public.
Reporting Lines
Under the supervision of Communication and Partnership Specialist and Office Assistant, FAO Liaison Office in Japan (LOJ) and in close collaboration with other colleagues, the incumbent will undertake the activities outlined below, in cooperation with various stakeholders including FAO units at headquarters and in decentralized offices, media, NGOs, private sector entities, Government institutions, local governments, as well as academic and research institutions.
Technical Focus
Handle daily communication work; oversee communication activities and coordination, support and manage internal and external communications.
Tasks and responsibilities
In close collaboration with Office of Communication (OCC) branches and appropriate Communication focal points, and in line with FAO communication standards and guidelines, the incumbent will handle daily communication work such as;.
(1) General communications:
• Collate information and develop appropriate digital assets, in line with global FAO key messages, terminology, standards and guidelines, and day-to-day management of LOJ social media channel (@FAOJapan), as per the FAO social media guidelines and in support of LOJ strategies, liaising and coordinating with the relevant technical officers, Regional Communication Officers (RCO) and OCC, as appropriate, and relevant supervisor for clearance;
• For videos intended for use on social media channels, liaise with RCO and OCC to review scripts, formats and final clearance;
• Adapt into Japanese digital assets to ensure maximum reach and amplification via social channels;
• Creating and publishing X posts, managing and monitoring FAO Japan X (former twitter) account-
• Updating FAO LOJ website including issuing press releases and creating new webpages for relevant topics;
• Assisting with translating video subtitles, press releases, and other relevant communication materials;
• Providing support in graphic design, video editing, and video subtitle adaptation to enhance the Office’s outreach and communication efforts;
• Conducting news clippings on topics relevant to the Office;
• Supporting media interviews;
• Supporting the Director and other office members in their media engagements and outreach activities, including drafting speech scripts and powerpoint presentations;
FAO Standards and guidelines:
• Liaison with OCC will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, aligned messaging, and appropriate review and clearance processes.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University degree in communication, journalism, and other fields relevant to the work of FAO
• One years of relevant experience in communication, journalism, and other fields relevant to the work of FAO
• Working knowledge of English and Japanese
• National of Japan or resident of the country with valid work permit
