About the Role

The Global Civil Society Coalition for the UNCAC is looking for a Project Officer to join its Hub team in Vienna, Austria, and support the implementation of the Coalition’s advocacy and programmatic activities around the monitoring and implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). 

A multi-faceted role, the position includes international advocacy and content work, as well as support for internal and external communications, support of issue-specific working groups and technical support to civil society groups working on parallel reports that assess the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption in their country.

If you have a demonstrated interest in governance and anti-corruption, are an excellent writer and editor with attention to detail, and a motivated advocate who wants to pursue a career working on anti-corruption efforts in an international setting, we would love to hear from you.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to civil society organizations that are producing parallel reports on national UNCAC implementation (supervision, technical assistance, copy editing and translation where needed)

  • Support the work of our issue-focused working groups (minutes, meeting moderation support, blog posts, projects, etc.)

  • Contribute to internal and external communication outputs (drafting, writing, and editing blog posts/statements for our website, editing and translating documents, etc.)

  • Contribute to website maintenance (working with Wordpress)

  • Contribute to civil society and government capacity-building efforts, including through managing a programme of skill-sharing workshops for civil society organisations in the Coalition’s network

  • Engage the Coalition membership and its wider civil society network to ensure regular sharing of information, help grow the Coalition’s network, and further increase the involvement and engagement of members in the work of the Coalition

  • Process and review documents related to members and affiliated groups’ applications, and support the management of the database of members and affiliated groups

  • Supporting and participating in relevant events such as the Conference of the States Parties to the UNCAC

  • Document activities, lect information, and provide analysis to support the Coalition's monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) efforts 

  • Support internal governance, organizational development, and internal communication efforts

  • Potential involvement in regional-level work 

  • Contribute to the Coalition’s advocacy efforts to strengthen the UNCAC and its implementation (including planning discussion events and meetings, engaging with governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders, and drafting advocacy materials and documents in close coordination with other team members) 

Your Profile:

  • You have a degree in law, political science, development studies, international relations, communications, or another relevant field

  • You have an excellent command of English, the Coalition’s working language; command of other languages - particularly French, Spanish, or other UN official languages - is highly desirable

  • You can demonstrate interest in the area of anti-corruption, good governance, human rights, including through work experience ed to these issues

  • You have at least two years of work experience relevant to the tasks and responsibilities of the position, preferably also working for civil society organizations, governmental bodies or relevant international organizations (experience working with civil society organizations, in particular in an international setting, is preferred)

  • You are an excellent writer who enjoys communicating online and offline, and engaging others, while accounting for cross-cultural contexts

  • You have native-level English writing skills and experience producing and editing different types of written outputs (blog posts, policy briefs, website content, etc.)

  • You are a diligent and proactive self-starter, show initiative, are reliable, pay close attention to detail, and feel passionate about our cause

  • We encourage candidates with a background in Sub-Saharan Africa or the SWANA region (South West Asia and North Africa) to apply -  if a candidate can demonstrate strong familiarity with relevant developments (anti-corruption, governance) in the region, there might be an opportunity to become involved in the Coalition’s engagement with members from the region.

  • You feel comfortable working in a small team, taking on new tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment

  • You have strong computer skills (Mac, standard office programs) and don’t shy away from teaching yourself to use new software and apps. Ideally, you have experience using Wordpress

  • You are preferably based in Vienna. In exceptional cases, we may consider remote candidates located within a maximum four-hour time difference from Austria (CET)

What we offer:

  • An opportunity to work on countering corruption, one of the defining issues of our time, while connected to both international-level diplomacy and grassroots action

  • A small team in an established organization, with the opportunity to help shape the organization’s activities and impact

  • A salary of EUR 2,400 per month (38.5h/week), 14 times a year (i.e. EUR 28,000 annual gross), with the potential of higher remuneration depending on the candidate’s profile and relevant experience

  • Public transport ticket for Vienna

  • One-year contract, with the intention to extend the contract, subject to fundingbeing secured

  • Partially working from home is possible

  • We can sponsor a work permit/visa for non-EU citizens
