The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the OECD. Both the IEA and the OECD seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-member countries of growing importance to the world economy. The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability

The IEA seeks to recruit multiple Renewable Energy Analysts to work in the Renewable Energy Division with experience in four main renewable energy focus areas: 1) electricity 2) transport 3) heating/cooling in the buildings and industry and 4) emerging technologies. The Analysts will contribute to the Agency’s analysis of renewable energy policies, markets and technologies. This will include supporting the monitoring of policy development, providing background research and gathering data on renewable energy policies and markets in the electricity, heating and transport sectors; it will also involve collaboration with the scientific and expert community of IEA Technology Collaboration Programmes (TCPs) and support the work of the IEA Renewable Energy Working Party (REWP).

Job Description

1. Analysis and Teamwork

Under the supervision of the Senior Analyst and the guidance of the Head of the Renewable Energy Division, contribute to the production of the “Renewable Energy Market Report” series including special reports and thematical focuses and to other work streams on renewable policies, markets and technologies covering the electricity, transport and heat sectors.

The analytical work will cover market, cost and policy analysis related to renewables. It will involve the management of large energy statistics datasets and the development of forecasting models based on these.

Working as part of a team, the Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Analysing market and policy developments in the renewable energy sectors and modelling the medium-term market forecast for specific regions and countries.
  • Monitoring renewable energy technology developments, including the evolution of investment costs, technology applications and performance data.
  • Developing, guiding and leading analytical and forecasting methodology, and messaging for various renewable energy technologies and thematical areas.
  • Analysing the deployment and cost implications of different renewable energy policies and developing relevant key messages of the analysis.
  • Contributing to the production process, strategic communications and marketing activities of the IEA’s “Renewable Energy Market Report”, as well as other publications as needed.
  • Contributing to the Division’s work on policy advice in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs)
  • Supporting the broader activities of the Division and the Agency through analytical, written and verbal contributions, development of web content and briefs on all aspects of renewable energy markets and policy.

2. Liaison and Outreach

The Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with other divisions in the Agency, providing analysis on renewable energy and its role in energy markets and systems.
  • Developing and maintaining contacts with governments, other international organisations, industry and other stakeholders.
  • Participating in preparations for meetings of the standing committees, working parties and other events, including the development of reports, analysis and information items.
  • Promoting the work of the Agency externally to a wide range of audiences through participation in workshops, making presentations and holding bilateral meetings.
  • Collaborating with the scientific and expert community of IEA’s Energy Technology Network; deriving knowledge from IEA Technology Collaboration Programmes to relevant IEA analysis and publications.
  • Supporting the work of the IEA Renewable Energy Working Party (REWP) as appropriate.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

  • An advanced university degree in engineering, physical sciences, statistics, international relations, economics/econometrics, or other relevant disciplines.

Professional Background

  • A minimum of four to six years’ experience in the field of renewable energy markets, policies and technologies.
  • A thorough understanding of both wholesale and retail electricity markets and their role in renewable energy deployment, as well as wider energy markets (including fuels for heat and for transport).
  • A good appreciation of the technical, economic and policy issues that influence the deployment of renewable energy. Specific experience in wind and solar power would be an advantage.
  • A good understanding of renewable energy financing mechanisms and investment environment - experience in the finance industry would be an advantage.
  • Experience in writing reports on complex, renewable energy-related subjects for a policy-maker audience.
  • Experience in managing and analysing large datasets of energy statistics. Ability to develop and maintain forecasting models based on these datasets.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office software, especially Excel (including macros and pivot tables, programming skills such as VBA) and experience with other computer programming skills will be an advantage.
  • Experience in the development of quantitative metrics to assess policy and regulatory frameworks in OECD Member and non-Member countries.

Languages

  • Excellent written and oral skills in English.
  • Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.

  • This vacancy should be filled as soon as possible, and applications should reach us no later than midnight on 18 March 2026 (Paris time).

Contract Duration

  • 2 years fixed-term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

Please note that our Rules and Regulations stipulate that the mandatory retirement age is 67.

Selection Process

  • For retained candidates, written tests/video-recorded interviews are foreseen from the second half of March 2026 and panel interviews will be held in mid-April.
  • This vacancy will be used to fill multiple positions. The appointment type will be determined based on the needs of the IEA and will be confirmed when an offer of employment is made to the selected candidate.
  • This is recruitment is meant to develop a roster for IEA Managers’ consideration for future upcoming roles at the Agency. Successful candidates may be cleared and following this process further interviews may follow to assess the suitability of the profiles towards specific needs. Following this recruitment process cleared further interviews may follow for cleared candidates depending on the needs of the Agency and the expertise/area of interest of the candidate.

What the OECD offers

  • Depending on level of experience, monthly salary starts at 8 098,38 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, exempt of French income tax.
  • Please note that the appointment may be made at a lower grade based on the qualifications and professional experience of the selected applicant.
