Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) works to promote diplomacy, dialogue and regional cooperation in Central Asia. The UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy (PDA) was established to strengthen the conflict prevention, mediation, and dialogue-facilitation skills of young people across the region. This internship is located within UNRCCA in Ashgabat and will support the activities of the Preventive Diplomacy Academy. The intern will work under the overall supervision of the PDA Project Head and the direct supervision of the Project Assistant. The position requires close collaboration with the PDA cohort members, regional partners and the Academy’s alumni network. The internship is expected to start on 15 March 2026 for an initial period of four months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of six months, subject to the needs of the office. Internships within the UN Secretariat are unpaid and full time Under the supervision of UNRCCA Political Affairs Officer, the intern will support the Preventive Diplomacy Academy (PDA) in the following areas: Data management and information support: - Assist in maintaining and updating the Academy’s participant and alumni database, ensuring accuracy and completeness. - Support the development of simple data visualization tools and dashboards to track Academy activities. - Contribute to data protection compliance in line with UN standards. Alumni Network and participant engagement: - Support follow-up communication with Cohort 2026 participants and PDA alumni Assist in facilitating engagement between alumni and current cohort members, including through networking events and knowledge-sharing initiatives Update and manage alumni profiles, professional information and areas of expertise. - Support the organization of virtual and in-person alumni events and track alumni professional development. Communications and Outreach: - Assist in drafting newsletters, announcements and other communication materials supporting content preparation for the Academy's social media and public information channels. - Conduct surveys and collect feedback from participants and alumni. General administrative support: Provide administrative and logistical support for PDA activities, events and tasks as required. The Intern might be asked to perform other duties not outlined in the current ToR but related to and support the implementation of the PDA project. Expected Duration Renewable. Initial period of four-month with possibility of further extension, subject to availability of funds and operational needs. Qualifications/Special Skills - Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in international relations, Social Science or Political Science desirable. - Experience in data management and information support Language: - Fluent in Russian and English languages.
