Org. Setting and Reporting
These temporary positions are located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS). The temporary position is based in Port au Prince and is located in the Engineering and Facility Management Section. The Associate Engineer, (Architect) P2 will report to the Chief Engineering and Facilities Management Section or her/his designated officer.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Engineer will apply professional engineering knowledge and expertise in performance of the following duties: 1. Planning and Design: • Applies commonly used engineering calculations, practices and precedents in completing portions of larger projects related to the design, construction, or repair of buildings, roads, bridges, airfields, helipads, , docks, waste disposal systems, flood control systems, water treatment facilities, electrical power generation and distribution systems, environmental control systems, field defences, and other related structures and activities in the field. • Prepare and develop concept designs, schematic layout, and design options for mission facilities, including accommodation, offices, support building and infrastructure, using AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit (BIM), able to produce drawing ins both 2D and 3D. • Conducts preliminary site investigations to obtain field data such as soil characteristics, drainage and other data required for building site selection. • Prepares design layout for smaller or less complex portions of camps, buildings and facilities. • Produces cost data and estimates on engineering related requirements of current and planned engineering projects. • Review contractor’s detailed drawings, shop drawings and as-built submissions. 2. Implementation: • Develops technical data regarding materials, sizes, dimensions, and quantities and costs to be incorporated in formal specifications. • Analyses project proposals to ensure technical feasibility and to ensure that project objectives are attainable within the prescribed resources. • Liaises with other engineers and mission specialists responsible for related specialized phases to arrive at mutually satisfactory approaches to problems by exchanging and comparing data. • Undertakes research to gather information related to engineering projects. • Prepares engineering presentations and assist in preparing engineering reports. 3. Performs other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in engineering civil/electrical/mechanical, architecture or other related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Job - Specific Qualification
Technical or vocational certificate/diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, construction, project management or in a relevant engineering discipline is desirable. Certificate in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit (BIM) is required
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering or related areas is required. Experience producing concept designs and detailed drawings using AutoCAD and developing 3D/BIM models using Autodesk Revit is required. Experience in drafting multi-disciplinary drawing packages (architectural, structural coordination, fit-out/finishing or space planning) is desirable. Experience conducting site measurements, preparing on-site sketches and updating as-built drawings is desirable. Experience preparing BoQs/material take-offs and supporting cost estimates from drawings is desirable. Experience applying international building codes, fire/life safety, accessibility and UN space planning/entitlement guidelines is desirable. Experience providing services in the field of engineering to or in a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is desirable.
