The position offers a platform to originate and implement approaches in primary health care, lead emergency response efforts, and influence public health programs within an international organization. The ultimate result of the incumbent includes: Managing satellite clinics located Ensuring emergency stabilization of patients Arranging patient transport as necessary. Emergency and Ambulance Services including coordinating both ground and air ambulance services and taking action during mass casualty incidents. Delivery of emergency care Patient Care Coordination: Health Education and Training: Implementing health promotion programs with a focus on first aid, occupational safety, and disease outbreak

Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Health Care Center is tasked with delivering both core and non-core health services to all United Nations staff members and their eligible dependents stationed in Ethiopia. This mandate encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including supporting staff and their families during various disasters and pandemics, managing medical evacuations, and undertaking other activities that contribute to staff well-being. The role of the Medical Doctor includes clinical duties, emergency response, and disaster preparedness activities to safeguard the health and safety of UN staff and their dependents Under the overall guidance of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Medical Officer is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities: Primary Responsibilities: The Medical Doctor is responsible for managing satellite clinics located in the field. Core duties include providing clinical care, ensuring emergency stabilization of patients, and arranging patient transport as necessary. Emergency and Ambulance Services: The Medical Officer must be available during off-hours and weekends to respond to emergencies. This includes coordinating both ground and air ambulance services and taking action during mass casualty incidents. Clinical Duties: The role involves conducting walk-in clinics, delivering emergency care, following up with patients, carrying out medical tests, planning treatments, and maintaining thorough medical records. Patient Care Coordination: The Medical Officer is tasked with developing individualized care plans, ensuring patient stability prior to transfer, providing clear discharge instructions, and maintaining effective communication with hospital departments. Health Education and Training: Responsibilities include implementing health promotion programs with a focus on first aid, occupational safety, and disease outbreak preparedness. The Medical Officer is also expected to develop educational materials and lead training presentations. Disaster Preparedness and Response: The Medical Officer will inspect emergency facilities, develop and update local emergency plans, participate in drills and training exercises, coordinate crisis management efforts, and collaborate with other UN agencies for disaster assessments. Clinic Maintenance: Ensuring the availability and regular maintenance of emergency medications and equipment in both clinics and ambulances is a key responsibility. The Medical Officer may also establish additional health posts as required. Custodianship of Medical Equipment: The Medical Officer serves as the custodian of all medical equipment assigned to them and is responsible for conducting regular inventory checks. Equipment Maintenance: The Medical Officer must ensure that all medical equipment remains in optimal working condition and that preventive maintenance is performed regularly
Qualifications/special skills
Education • A first-level university degree that qualifies the holder for registration as a licensed medical practitioner (MD, MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent) with a specialty in Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine is required. • Current unrestricted registration with the medical licensing authority of Ethiopia is required. • Additional training in emergency medicine (such as BLS, ALS, PHTLS, or equivalent) is required. Experience • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible clinical experience as a medical doctor out of which minimum 3 years as a specialist in internal medicine or emergency medicine is required. • Familiarity with electronic medical records is required. • Previous work experience in an international organization is considered an advantage. • Experience as instructor in emergency training (BLS, First AID, ALS) is an advantage Required Skills/Competencies Professionalism: Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of clinical, occupational, and tropical medicine. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the job advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Special Notice: 1. Although this position falls under ECA where the recruitment and selection process is managed; the contract administration will be handled through United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) under contract term of "Local Individual Contractor Agreement". 2. The UN Clinic is in the field operates during working hours of the duty station. In addition, staff are expected to be on call for emergencies 3. Evaluation of qualified candidates will consist of a technical assessment test followed by a competency-based interview. 4. The Selected Candidate can be deployed to other UNHCC satellite clinics as per organizational need. 5. THIS IS A LOCALLY RECRUITED POSITION FOR WHICH ONLY APPLICANTS WHO ARE ETHIOPIAN NATIONALS OR APPLICANTS WHO POSSESS A VALID RESIDENCE AND WORK PERMIT IN ETHIOPIA ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION. A work permit or License to practice in Ethiopia is required.
