Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Resident Coordinator leads the UN County Team (UNCT), including all UN entities present in the Kingdom of Eswatini, and represents the UN Secretary General to the Government of the country. The main goal of the Resident Coordinator is to bring together the different UN agencies for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the operational activities at the country level, helping the UN to be a more relevant and reliable partner to the government. The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) supports the roles and functions of the UN Resident Coordinator and the UNCT. The RCO provides inter-agency coordination support to the UNCT and its various inter-agency mechanisms. Key functions of the RCO include: (1) strategic analysis, planning and positioning of the Country Team; (2) preparation and monitoring of the United Nations Development Framework (UNDAF); (3) support to joint UN programming and operations management; (4) policy guidance and (5) joint advocacy and communications. The UN General Assembly Resolution 72/279 on the repositioning of the UN Development System, positions UNSDCF as the single most important UN country planning instrument in support of the 2030 Agenda based in the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Eswatini. The role of the Assistant Economic Analyst will be to support in providing evidence-based economic policy analysis and advice to support the implementation and achievement of SDGs in Eswatini. The intern will be under the supervision of the Partnerships and Financing for Development Officer . The Internship at RCO Eswatini is for a period of Six (6) months. The Internship is UNPAID and in-person at the Duty Station. Responsibilities Under the overall guidance of the Team Leader and Strategic Planner as a secondary supervisor and direct supervision of the Partnerships and Financing for Development Officer in the UN RCO as the first supervisor, the Partnerships and Financing for Development Intern be responsible for supporting the mapping, analysis, and engagement of strategic stakeholders including : • Enhancing the UNRCO’s capacity to identify and engage with new and existing partners. • Conducting research and analysis to inform partnership strategies. • Supporting coordination efforts across UN agencies and external stakeholders. This internship will also provide the intern with valuable exposure to multilateral development work, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning processes.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Preferred studies: University degree (Bachelor of Arts or equivalent) in economics, economic policy and planning, economic policy management, public policy, or any other closely related field. - Knowledge of Eswatini’s social and economic development context. - Analytical skills and application of techniques (e.g. econometric tools, Microsoft, statistical analysis) - Demonstrable skills in writing and presentation - Have affinity with or interest in coordination, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English language is required for this internship. Knowledge of Siswati would be desirable.
