VSO is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes volunteering as a powerful and practical way to tackle poverty and inequality. Our purpose is to create lasting change through volunteering.
At VSO, we believe in bringing about change, not by sending aid, but by working with volunteers and partners to empower people in some of the world’s poorest and most fragile regions. We know that people in developing countries have the desire, power, courage and determination to shape their own futures.
Through our Volunteering for Development (VfD) approach, we put the most marginalised people first. Grounded in years of evidence and learning, this approach develops active citizens who drive local community-led change and deliver sustainable development goals long after a project or grant ends.
This role strengthens capacity of Civil Society Groups (CSGs) i.e. Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Committees, Farmer / Agroecology Groups, Women’s Farmers’ Groups, Village Savings and Loan Associations formed by women, youth, and other marginalized groups to anticipate, respond to, and recover from disasters, adopt climate-resilient farming practices, improving food sovereignty and livelihoods.
The volunteer serves as a crucial link between local governance structures, Civil Society Groups (CSGs and communities in Sussundenga driving the implementation of risk-informed strategies that protect lives, safeguard livelihoods, sustain development gains. Enable them to participate in Manica provincial policy dialogues on climate resilience & smallholder rights.
The position also focuses on integrating climate adaptation planning into system strengthening efforts by working alongside CSGs and local government bodies. Build capacity of CSG to develop and implement locally led adaptation strategies, embed crisis modifiers in their operations, and effectively engage duty bearers.
