The project objective is to contribute to the national processes of strengthening family farmers in Brazil for poverty reduction and rural revitalization. The outcome is to implement differentiated policies and programs that improve the capacities of the national government, local and family farmers in areas such as ATER (rural extension and technical advisory services), Credit Programs, land access and governance, access to markets and the strengthening of cooperativism.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent reports to the Assistant Representative in FAO Brazil – Programme.
Technical Focus
The incumbent will prepare studies that aim to map, analyze and systematize the main traditional markets, opportunities and innovations in Family Farming products and services.
Tasks and Responsibilities
• Conduct primary data collection through interviews with Family Farming leaders, market specialists, public managers and representatives of the productive sector;
• Prepare technical analysis on traditional, emerging and innovative markets, considering consumer trends, regulatory barriers, logistical aspects and niche opportunities;
• Support the development of a specific study on the impacts of the 50% tariff applied by the United States on Brazilian products, identifying affected production chains, risks and alternatives for insertion in other markets;
• Build comparative analyses of competitiveness in national and international priority markets, incorporating regulatory, logistical and socio-environmental aspects;
• Correlate the findings of the mapping and technical studies with MDA programs and policies (PAA, PNAE, PRONAF, Coopera Mais Brasil, among others), identifying synergies and gaps;
• Produce technical reports and analytical panels, presenting results in a structured and accessible way to support strategic decisions of the MDA;
• Prepare strategic recommendations and action scenarios, proposing ways to diversify, increase competitiveness and strengthen Family Farming in the short, medium and long term.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING:
Minimum Requirements
• University Degree in Agricultural Sciences or Human Sciences or Biological Sciences or Applied Social Sciences
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience the subject of food supply in family farming and professional experience with the public of family farming, traditional peoples and communities, agrarian reform settlers and/or urban and peri-urban agriculture
• Working knowledge of English and Portuguese;
• National of Brazil or resident of the country with valid work permit
