Contract Information

The development of the IMO Projects Roster is a list of qualified and pre-vetted individuals who have already undergone screening. The aim of the roster is to expedite the recruitment process as when openings become available, successful candidate will be approached. Successful candidate will be placed in the respective roster for a period of 24-month.Note - Being included on the roster does not guarantee a job. Those who are listed on the roster will be contacted when a suitable opportunity opens up

Salary Information

US$ 50,377 net per annum, plus post adjustment (currently US$ 36,171). Salary is free of income tax in the United Kingdom

Purpose

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Projects, Partnerships and Projects Subdivision, and direct supervision of the Project Manager, the incumbent will provide technical expertise associated with the implementation of an IMO major project.The development of the IMO Projects Roster is a list of qualified and pre-vetted individuals who have already undergone screening. Duties and Responsibilities

Provide technical advisory and capacity building support at a global, regional, and national levels.Initiate, contribute and coordinate the development of global guidance documents to assist with IMO Member States in undertaking project specific activities. Review, edit and contribute to other publications developed or commissioned by the project.Supervise and act as the technical subject-matter expert on the development of global studies and research undertaken by IMO.Liaise within IMO on project activities, including establishing synergies and coherence.Facilitate the policy dialogue between industry and government representatives and actively support the Project Manager from a technical point of view.Prepare and administer materials on awareness-raising to Lead Partner Countries and other developing countries. Provide management and financial analyses to ensure all operations, financial administration, and procurement activities initiated by or assigned to the project are in compliance with IMO standards and procedures.Draft documents, e.g. background papers, briefing notes, presentations to internal and external partners, speeches, mission reports and inputs for presentations by senior IMO staff on project-related issues for specialist or non-specialist audiences.Chair technical discussions and participate as a speaker in international conferences, exhibitions and outreach activities representing the project and IMO.Develop and implement a global central knowledge hub on all technical aspects of the project including overseeing the design and content of the data platform and conduct desktop research and establish collaboration agreements with appropriate institutions. Review and edit consultant reports and provide feedback on their performance. Attend relevant conferences, meetings, and seminars, as required.Draft terms of reference for contracting additional experts and consultants and oversee their engagement.Undertake any other duties as required for the effective management of the project or the Division

Experience

Have at least three years of relevant professional experience in delivering project services is essential. Experience in developing and executing international projects.Experience in analysing technical assistance needs and delivering technical cooperation activities. Have a minimum of two years’ relevant experience in budget preparation and monitoring including financial analysis and project administration experience is essential.Experience in organizing global information exchange forums, capacity-building activities and initiating communication/promotional strategies and materials would be beneficial

Education

A university degree in Environment, Marine or Maritime-related studies, Maritime Law, or related subjects

Language Skills

Proficiency in English, both written and oral, is essential. Working knowledge of other UN languages would be an asset

Others

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential. Knowledge and understanding of capacity-building challenges and international regulations related to maritime environmental issues would be desirable
