In collaboration with and with the full support of the project team, subject matter experts, and other key stakeholders, the Instructional Designer/Course Developer will design, develop, and implement UN operational training programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peace operations, and regional commissions. This Consultancy is located within the Business Process and System Support Section (BPSSS) of the Capacity Development and Operational Training Service (CDOTS) in the Department of Operational Support (DOS). CDOTS provides operational training, language and communications training, training on the UN’s enterprise resource planning system, knowledge management, and leads as the main facilitator of business process management activities in the UN Secretariat. Our learning and development team is dedicated to nurturing talent, facilitating knowledge sharing, and driving continuous professional growth. We are building a candidate pool of dedicated and enthusiastic Instructional Designer/Course Developer to join the Business Process and System Support Section (BPSSS) to support specific operational training projects. This role offers a unique experience to contribute to the UN's mission while gaining valuable insights and practical skills in the field of learning and development. Candidates in our pool will be contacted when a specific role becomes available. The Instructional Designer/Course Developer will be responsible for: • Applying instructional design theories and practices to develop engaging, effective, and user-friendly e-learning courses using appropriate content-authoring software. • Implementing and testing the designed learning solutions in a Moodle-based LMS. This includes creating a framework for evaluating the learning solutions' technical performance and user experience within the LMS environment. • Offering technical support and advice on e-learning strategies and tools. • Establishing metrics for assessing the effectiveness of these strategies and tools in enhancing the learning experience and achieving educational objectives. • Regularly updating and enhancing course materials based on feedback and new research insights. • Working closely with subject matter experts to gather instructional materials and ensuring course content accuracy and relevance
Qualifications/special skills
Academic Qualifications: A university degree (bachelor's or master's) in instructional design, learning and development, online course development, educational technology, graphic design, business administration, and/or other relevant areas is required. Experience: • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in developing and delivering eLearning programmes/experience in instructional design, course development, and/or related work is required. • Demonstrated ability to develop courses on complex topics and convert in-person training into compelling and accessible learning content is required. • Strong project management skills with a track record of successful collaboration in a multidisciplinary team is required. • Proven experience and competence in content authoring software such as Articulate 360 is required. • Familiarity with multimedia tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite, Vyond, NaturalReaders, etc. is desirable. • Experience working in a global context such as the United Nations or similar organizations is desirable. Language: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in additional UN languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese) is required for some projects.
