The World Bank Group's Facilities Capital Management Program is responsible for planning, governing, and monitoring capital investments across the institution's global real estate portfolio, including Headquarters facilities and Country Office locations. The program manages investments that support workplace modernization, operational resilience, sustainability, safety and security compliance, business continuity, and the delivery of World Bank Group strategic objectives.

The Facilities Capital Management team oversees the Annual Investment Plan (AIP), capital budgeting, reserve management, project funding releases, portfolio governance, financial reporting, and performance monitoring across IBRD and IFC real estate investment programs.

The Facilities Capital Management Intern will support the team in strengthening capital planning, portfolio analytics, investment governance, financial reporting, and data-driven decision-making across a global portfolio of real estate capital projects. The internship will provide exposure to large-scale capital portfolio management, corporate real estate strategy, financial management, and organizational transformation within an international development institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Facilities Capital Management team, the intern will support activities including:
  • Capital Planning and Portfolio Analysis
    • Assist with the preparation and analysis of Annual Investment Plan (AIP) data.
    • Support the review of capital investment proposals and project prioritization exercises.
    • Analyze capital budget allocations, commitments, expenditures, and reserve balances.
    • Prepare portfolio-level reports and executive briefing materials.
  • Financial Reporting and Performance Monitoring
    • Support development and maintenance of capital management dashboards and reporting tools.
    • Assist in tracking project execution performance, budget utilization, and capital reserve levels.
    • Conduct trend analysis and benchmarking of capital program performance metrics.
    • Contribute to preparation of quarterly and annual portfolio reviews.
  • Governance and Capital Controls
    • Participate in process improvement initiatives designed to strengthen transparency, consistency, and accountability.
    • Support development of guidance materials, templates, and operating procedures.

  • Data Analytics and Digital Transformation
    • Support data quality reviews across capital management systems.
    • Assist in identifying opportunities for automation, reporting enhancements, and AI-enabled analytics.
    • Contribute to development of integrated reporting solutions across IBRD and IFC capital programs.
    • Perform research on industry best practices in capital program management and corporate real estate governance.
  • Knowledge Management and Communications
    • Prepare presentations and briefing materials for senior management.
    • Document lessons learned, business processes, and portfolio insights.
    • Support stakeholder engagement activities across regional and corporate teams.
    • Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives within the Facilities and Real Estate community.
Expected Deliverables
 
By the conclusion of the internship, the intern will have contributed to:
  • Capital portfolio analysis and reporting outputs.
  • Executive dashboard enhancements and performance tracking tools.
  • AIP planning and investment prioritization activities.
  • Capital governance process documentation.
  • Data quality and portfolio analytics reviews.
  • Research papers, benchmarking studies, or business improvement recommendations.
  • Presentation materials supporting leadership decision-making.

Selection Criteria

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in: Finance, Business Administration, Real Estate, Data Analytics, Project Management, Information Systems, Other related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated interest in development work and the World Bank Group’s mission.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and data analysis. 
  • Experience with Power BI or similar visualization tools is desirable.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills. 
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into concise recommendations. 
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment. 
  • Interest in infrastructure, corporate real estate, capital investments, and organizational transformation.
  • Excellent written and spoken English required. Additional languages are an asset.
