Job Description

Organizational Setting

FAO Mongolia works with the vision "to be a leading, credible and responsive partner in ensuring food and nutrition security of the population". The office has been coordinating projects and programmes in research, capacity building, natural resources management, technology transfer, food and agriculture policy, livestock production systems management, emergency and post crisis management, forestry information, statistics, food security and nutrition, emergency response operations, crop production system management, and food quality and safety. 
The project “Sustainable Ecosystem and Agriculture Management for Rural Development in Mongolia (STREAM )” aims to contribute to strengthening Mongolia’s green and digital transition efforts for inclusive and sustainable development.

The project is co-financed by the European Union and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is implemented by GIZ as the lead organization, with FAO as a partner. FAO is responsible for implementing the Agriculture and Land components.

FAO is currently seeking a Knowledge Management Specialist to provide support to the project team to manage the Agriculture and Land Component.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Mongolia, and the direct supervision of the National Project Manager, and in close liaison with the AFAOR of the FAO Mongolia.

Technical focus

The incumbent must take on various roles within an organization to help ensure effective day-to-day operations of the project.  

Tasks and responsibilities

In close collaboration with Office of Communications (OCC) branches and appropriate Communication focal points, the incumbent will:

Knowledge Management and Documentation

•     Develop and implement a knowledge management and outreach plan for the STREAM project.
•     Collect, organize, document and disseminate project results, lessons learned, good practices, innovations, and success stories.
•     Establish and maintain systems and templates for systematic documentation and information management across project activities.
•     Maintain a repository of project documents, publications, photographs, videos, and communication materials.
•     Support the preparation of project reports, presentations, briefing notes, donor reports, and visibility materials.
•     Provide support to FAO Mongolia programme teams in organizing periodic meetings, learning events, knowledge-sharing sessions, and other corporate initiatives as required.

Communication, Visibility and Outreach

•     Prepare communication and visibility products, including news articles, human-interest stories, success stories, policy briefs, case studies, fact sheets, newsletters, presentations, and promotional materials in accordance with FAO and donor communication and visibility requirements.
•     Develop and manage content for FAO Mongolia and STREAM communication platforms, including websites, social media channels, newsletters, and other outreach tools.
•     Ensure compliance with donor visibility requirements, particularly those of the European Union and BMZ.
•     Support media engagement activities, including drafting press releases, media advisories, key messages, talking points, and communication packages.
•     Contribute to the preparation of corporate communication products highlighting FAO Mongolia’s programme achievements and impacts.

Multimedia Content Development and Design

•     Capture high-quality photographs and video footage during project activities, field missions, trainings, workshops, demonstrations, and events.
•     Produce short videos, reels, photo stories, and other multimedia products for communication, awareness raising, and social media engagement.
•     Conduct interviews with beneficiaries, project partners, and stakeholders and develop compelling stories showcasing project results and impacts.
•     Design and format communication and visibility materials, including brochures, flyers, banners, posters, infographics, factsheets, and event materials in line with FAO and donor branding guidelines.
•     Prepare visually appealing PowerPoint presentations, reports, briefing packages, and other knowledge products for management, donors, and stakeholders.
•     Support communication coverage of field activities, missions, workshops, conferences, and special events.
•     Maintain and organize a digital archive of photographs, videos, publications, communication materials, and project visibility products.
•     The officer in charge of the photo production should liaise with OCC at the appropriate stages to ensure workflow, quality and files delivered correspond to FAO Photo Library production standards.

•     The officer-in-charge of the video production should liaise with OCC at the appropriate stages for distribution and publication of the video products.

•     For videos intended for use on social media channels, liaise with the Regional Communication Officer (RCO) and OCC to review scripts, formats and final clearances.

Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Development

•     Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, webinars, exhibitions, field days, and other outreach events to promote project results and exchange knowledge.
•     Build the capacity of project staff, local coordinators, partners, and beneficiaries in knowledge documentation, storytelling, visibility, and communication practices.
•     Promote the documentation and dissemination of local knowledge, innovations, and traditional practices related to sustainable ecosystem and agricultural management.

Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement

•     Liaise with government institutions, development partners, academia, civil society organizations, media representatives, and private sector stakeholders to strengthen outreach and knowledge-sharing efforts.
•     Support the development of communication partnerships and collaborative initiatives that enhance project visibility and impact.
•     Represent the project and FAO Mongolia at relevant outreach, communication, and knowledge-sharing events as required.

Other Duties

•     Perform any other related duties as required by the FAO Representative, AFAOR, or National Project Manager.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements  
 
•     University degree in journalism, communication, public relations, business administration, or other relevant disciplines
•     Minimum 5 years of working experience communications, including social media management and other related areas
•     Working knowledge of English and Mongolian
•     Nationality of Mongolia
