Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will support the update and maintenance of urban policy-related content on the Cities and Urban Platform, with a specific focus on municipal financing and budgeting frameworks in Latin America and the Caribbean. The internship in the Human Settlements Unit, Santiago will last 3 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office and availability of the candidates. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Responsibilities: The intern will be supporting the review and systematization of national legislation governing municipal revenues and financing mechanisms in Latin America and the Caribbean. Duties may include: - Reviewing and analyzing national legal and regulatory frameworks related to municipal financing and budgeting (e.g., revenue sources, intergovernmental transfers, fiscal instruments, borrowing frameworks). - Identifying, tracking, and documenting recent changes in legislation, as well as mapping new or updated legal instruments. - Systematizing information according to a pre-established analytical framework, ensuring consistency and comparability across countries. - Uploading and organizing content (legal documents, summaries, and structured data) in the Cities and Urban Platform.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Is your field of study related to law, public policy, public administration, urban planning or related fields? Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
Spanish is the working language of ECLAC. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship.
