Job Description
Org. Setting and Reporting
The temporary position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS). The Medical Services Section delivers healthcare, occupational health services, and MEDEVAC coordination in line with the mission mandate. Within this framework, the Medical Evacuation Coordination Cell (MECC) oversees the planning and coordination of medical evacuations for mission personnel and other eligible individuals. The Nurse – MEDEVAC Operator (FS-5) reports to the Head Nurse and operates under the supervision of the Chief MECC. The incumbent collaborates closely with aviation, logistics, and security units, as well as external medical facilities, to ensure the efficient and prompt medical evacuation of mission personnel and other eligible
Responsibilities
Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, the Medical Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: Reviews and coordinates medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) requests, ensuring complete documentation, appropriate urgency classification, and compliance with applicable United Nations policies and procedures. Provides professional nursing input on patient stabilization, fitness for travel, and evacuation requirements; advises referring medical teams and refers complex cases to senior medical staff as appropriate. Coordinates with relevant operational components, including aviation, logistics, movement control, and security, to facilitate medical clearances and the timely arrangement of transport assets, equipment, and escorts, including in mass-casualty or complex evacuation situations. Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential MEDEVAC and clinical records and reports in authorized systems, in accordance with UN data protection, confidentiality, and reporting standards. Responds to emergency calls and assists Medical Officers in providing adequate care; ensures effective liaison between patient and private doctor, paramedics, family members, and colleagues as appropriate; documents case findings. Performs diagnostic and screening tests such as: ECG, x-rays, laboratory (blood and urine), and other tests as required. Performs clinical assessment of patients visiting the walk-in clinic; provides care/advice accordingly or facilitates referral to the UN Medical Officer or to an outside physician, as indicated. Ensures preparedness of staff travelling on missions or reassignments, including administration of appropriate vaccine, instructions on malaria prophylaxis and other travel-related ailments. Instructs on the content and potential uses of the travel kit. Assists in providing health education and health promotion programs; participates in work environment assessment, e.g. office ergonomics, and addresses other occupational health issues. Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. Performs other related duties as required.

Education
Registered Professional Nurse who is a graduate of either an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Programme (University) or an accredited Diploma Programme (4 years) is required.
Job - Specific Qualification
National registration and license are required. Certification in Basic Life Support and CPR, with demonstrated ability to operate ECG machines and glucometers, is required. Knowledge of electronic medical record systems and accurate clinical documentation is required. Certification in acute trauma care and life support (ATLS) with validity covering deployment period, is required. Certificate in the United Nations Buddy First Aid Master Trainer Course is desirable. Pre-hospital trauma life support (PHTLS) and or equivalent certification is desirable with validity covering the deployment period.
Work Experience
At least 6 years of progressively responsible clinical experience in general nursing, emergency Care and health administration is required. Knowledge and understanding of relevant UN administrative policies and procedures is desirable. Experience in the usage of Earthmed/Medgate patient database is desirable. Experience participating in or supporting medical evacuations, patient transfers or similar operations involving coordination with transport/logistics actors is desirable. Experience in field missions, humanitarian operations or high‑risk international environments is desirable. Experience within the United Nations system or other international organizations is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English and French are required. Spanish is desirable.
