Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
In the wake of increased demand for digitalization of the agriculture sector and use of data for decision making, FAO Kenya has been at the forefront in supporting the Government of Kenya to fully realize this goal. Consequently, FAO Kenya is seeking to strengthen its internal technical capacity by employing a qualified and competent Technical Coordinator in a position located within the FAO Representation in Kenya.
Reporting Lines
The Technical Coordinator will work under overall guidance of the FAO Representative in Kenya and direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programmes).
Technical Focus
Technical Coordinator will lead the Project Management Unit (PMU), manage the day-to-day operations of the project and ensuring technical coherence, operational efficiency, and high-quality delivery of all outputs within the approved scope, budget, and timeline. The incumbent will facilitate smooth coordination among stakeholders, including the Kenya National Treasury (NDA), Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry (MoECCF), County Governments, the Council of Governors (CoG), and FAO, and will serve as Secretary to the Project Steering Committee (PSC).
Tasks and responsibilities
• Oversee and manage the grant delivery, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and timelines.
• Coordinate inputs from consultants, service providers, and implementing partners.
• Prepare annual and quarterly work plans in consultation with FAO, NDA, MoECCF, CoG, and other stakeholders.
• Act as Secretary to the PSC, preparing agenda, minutes, and follow-up actions.
• Provide technical coordination and guidance to all project outputs.
• Ensure the logical flow of interdependent activities across the project.
• Oversee and review development of county climate adaptation plans in close collaboration with service providers and national stakeholders.
• Consolidate input for the development of a review report of NAP implementation.
• Ensure technical quality of deliverables, including reports, M&E systems, and knowledge products.
• Monitor project progress, risks, and results in line with the Logical Framework and GCF reporting requirements.
• Ensure timely preparation of progress and completion reports for FAO and GCF.
• Maintain transparent and accountable reporting systems.
• Facilitate effective communication and coordination among project partners.
• Promote inclusive participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups in project activities.
• Support organization of workshops, consultations, and the Climate Investment Forum.
• Identify potential implementation challenges and propose mitigation measures.
• Report promptly on any delays or difficulties to FAO and the PSC
FAO Standards and guidelines:
• Liaison with OCC will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, aligned messaging, and appropriate review and clearance processes.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Master’s degree in environmental science, climate studies, natural resource management or a closely related field from a recognized university is required
• A minimum of five (5) years of progressive work experience in climate change adaptation planning, implementation, or related work
• Working knowledge (level C) of English and Kiswahili
