Job Description
THE ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) a United Nations specialised agency that sets international Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) for aviation safety, air navigation, security, and environmental protection. ICAO is a knowledge-based organization engaged in developing intellectual property. The Revenue and Product Management Section is part of the Capacity Development and Implementation Bureau, focusing on revenue-generating activities, including events, training, publications, periodicals, databases, websites, and printing. These activities support ICAO’s Strategic Objectives and related Programme Support.

The Product Management Unit (PTM) identifies, analyses, and implements revenue-generating opportunities. Within this team, the marketing team is responsible for marketing ICAO products, services, and events. Under the guidance of the Marketing Manager, the Marketing and Communication Coordinator will work with the marketing team, ICAO Bureaus, and Regional Offices to build digital and promotional campaigns that showcase ICAO's intellectual property products and events.
 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Function1 (incl. Expected results)

Digital Marketing Campaigns

  • Execute digital marketing campaigns on time, on strategy, and within budget.
  • Perform day-to-day email marketing activities, including campaign setup, scheduling, testing, tagging, and deployment of various campaign types.
  • Assist Product Managers in developing marketing plans for events, products, and services.
  • Develop message strategy, copy, and creative in collaboration with Product Management, Marketing, Sales, Technical Bureaus, and Regional Offices.
  • Craft targeted messages and build an email calendar based on effective campaign timing and best practices.
  • Identify and build accurate data selection for recipient and exclusion segmentation, ensuring quality assurance of all outbound campaigns.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to campaign reporting, email deliverability, segmentation, and digital experience.
  • Collaborate with internal marketing team and external stakeholders to ensure seamless campaign processes.
  • Manage subscriber data import and segmentation using email application tools and database queries.
  • Implement advanced dynamic content in email marketing campaigns to display different content to users based on defined fields in their contact records.
  • Utilize email marketing automation tools for various campaign types, including business renewal, lead-nurturing, sales engagement, promotional, and customer onboarding/retention campaigns.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of campaign deployments.
  • Work with IT and service providers to ensure smooth technical operations of digital marketing.
  • Monitor, analyze, and present data from digital marketing efforts, refining processes and procedures for improvement.
  • Optimize campaigns to deliver relevant marketing content to customers and influencers at the right time during the buying cycle.
     
Function 2 (incl. Expected results)

Social Media Management

  • Develop and post social media content promoting ICAO events, products, and services across platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, ICAO TV, X(Twitter), and the UnitingAviation.com blog.
  • Publish and share daily content that builds meaningful connections and encourages community action.
  • Write and edit marketing copy, announcements, and other materials for social media channels and the blog.
  • Stay informed on social media innovations, digital trends, and target consumers, and review analytics to improve results and meet program KPIs.
  • Support sales activities, including up-selling, cross-selling, and program renewals.
  • Maintain and update a robust editorial calendar in collaboration with the ICAO Communication Department.
  • Implement grassroots growth strategies and engagement tactics to build high-integrity relationships and foster brand advocacy and awareness.
  • Manage social media engagement tactics to grow and retain the ICAO community across networks.
  • Perform event-based live blogging/tweeting and content development.
  • Engage in paid social advertising to promote ICAO content to broader audiences.
  • Assist in live streaming ICAO events and webinars across social networks such as Zoom, Vimeo OTT, and virtual event platforms.
     
Function 3 (incl. Expected results)

Content Development 

  • Edit and publish articles developed by Technical Bureaus, Communications, or Regional Offices.
  • Maintain and update previously published content for timeliness and accuracy.
  • Structure and update content tagging and metadata to achieve SEO goals.
  • Manage digital assets such as photos, images, and videos on the platform.
  • Develop and publish live blogging articles for ICAO events.
  • Create organic and paid social posts to promote new and evergreen content, growing ICAO platform’s audience.
 
Function 4 (incl. Expected results)
  • Organize files and working documents following established structures.
  • Complete all mandatory organizational training during the service period.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
     
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
 
Educational background
 
Essential
  • A first-level university degree in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, E-Commerce, or related fields.
     
Professional experience and Knowledge
 
Essential
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in communications, journalism, and digital marketing.
  • Experience in executing marketing campaigns through email marketing and social media platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with CRM systems, marketing tools, and marketing automation systems.
  • Experience in paid advertising on Google, Facebook, X(Twitter), and LinkedIn.
  • Basic HTML/CSS skills for designing and developing marketing emails.
  • Strong creative and copywriting skills.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Experience with key social media channels and social analytics tools.
  • Knowledge of online marketing and a good understanding of major marketing channels.
  • Ability to work as a team player in a cross-functional management structure.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural, and dynamic environment.
  • Great time management skills and ability to handle rigid deadlines and revisions.
  • Detail-oriented and results-driven with speedy output delivery.
Desirable
  • Experience using social media management tools.
  • Familiarity with SEO.
  • Intermediate HTML/CSS skills.
  • Video production experience using Adobe Premiere and After Effects, live streaming, and transcoding.
  • Experience developing strategies to drive traffic and revenue through organic search.
  • Ability to understand promotional data and summarize it meaningfully for business goals, analyze results, recognize trends, and make recommendations.
  • Experience with web analytics.
     
Language Skill
 
Essential
  • Fluent reading, writing and speaking abilities in English.
Desirable
  • A working knowledge of any other language of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).
     
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

This ongoing consultancy is structured on an annual renewal basis, subject to performance and budget availability. As a consultant, this position does not include paid vacation/holiday days, insurance, or pension benefits. Consultants won't be paid for vacation days, sick days and national holidays.

Compensation is provided at a daily rate ranging from CAD 186 to CAD 210 net. The consultant is expected to work five days a week, on a full-time basis (9 AM - 5 PM). It is required to be in the Montreal office for a minimum of 3 days a week. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required to support conferences and events. Employment income from UN agencies is tax exempt in Canada.
