The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. Context
Following the five recommendations of the United Nations Secretary-General at the regional level to guide the restructuring of the United Nations development system, the Regional Collaborative Platform in Latin America and the Caribbean (RCP LAC) was established in November 2020. The RCP LAC is chaired by the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General and the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are the Vice-Chairs. The RCP LAC is composed of 24 United Nations entities, across the three United Nations pillars represented at the level of Regional Directors. The overall objective of the RCP is to provide a light and agile United Nations development system which is demand-driven and results-oriented to ensure coordination, collaboration and the best use of United Nations expertise and assets at the regional level. The RCP LAC brings together leadership, accountability and clarity to United Nations development system goals, activities and results in the region and amplifies United Nations country teams’ support at the national level in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and achieving the SDGs. To support ongoing communication efforts, the RCP LAC Joint Secretariat is seeking assistance from an Online UN Volunteer to develop a short video presenting key messages and results related to the work and impact of the RCP LAC. The video may draw on content from the system-wide results report as well as other relevant materials to communicate the collective impact of the United Nations development system in Latin America and the Caribbean to audiences including UN leadership, UN country teams, government partners, development partners and donors, and the general public. This assignment offers an opportunity for the volunteer to contribute to an important United Nations regional communications product. The video will be presented at high-level regional events and shared across United Nations platforms, supporting broader awareness of the role and results of the UN development system in Latin America and the Caribbean and contributing to advancing the visibility of the United Nations’ work in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Task Description
The Online UN Volunteer will report to UNDP as the host entity. Under the supervision of the Regional Development Specialist, the volunteer will support the development of a short video presenting the key messages, story, and results of the RCP LAC. Specifically, the volunteer will: Content development and planning: • Review key materials, including the results report, key messages, and reference content provided by the Joint Secretariat. • Propose a visual concept and approach aligned with United Nations branding and communication objectives. • Prepare a storyboard or visual outline for feedback and approval. Video production: • Create a compelling video of approximately 3-4 minutes in length, combining motion graphics, text, visual animation elements, and video clips to highlight the story and results of RCP LAC. • Integrate visual elements such as icons, graphic elements, and simple custom illustrations, as appropriate, to ensure a clear and cohesive visual narrative. • Where relevant, develop clear and accessible visualizations (such as simple graphs, charts, timelines, or infographics) to help communicate key messages and results. • Revise the video based on consolidated feedback from the team to ensure clarity, accuracy and quality. Expected deliverables: • Deliver a final video suitable for screening at events and dissemination on digital platforms (Full HD, 16:9 format). • Prepare an adapted version suitable for social media use, where feasible. • Share editable project files and visual assets developed during the assignment. The UN Volunteer is encouraged to contribute creative ideas to ensure the video is engaging, clear, and appropriate for its intended audiences, while working within the guidance and materials provided by the Joint Secretariat.
