The Global Green Growth Institute internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

Internship, GEDSI & Climate

GGGI Lao PDR is seeking a motivated and talented individual to support the Program for Open and Sustainable Carbon Markets in Lao PDR, with a special focus on integrating Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) into national carbon market systems. Lao PDR is facing increasingly severe climate impacts, with floods, droughts, and changing rainfall patterns affecting agriculture, forests, and rural livelihoods. Within the broader climate transition, Lao PDR has also embedded GEDSI considerations into the National Green Growth Strategy of the Lao PDR till 2030, draft 10th National Socio-Economic Development Plan, and the draft NDC 3.0. With support from GGGI, the country is also preparing for more structured engagement in carbon markets, including Article 6 cooperation and voluntary market mechanisms. However, persistent gender and social inclusion gaps risk limiting who can participate in or benefit from these climate and carbon market opportunities.

The intern will contribute to the GEDSI & Climate Initiative, which aims to strengthen the meaningful participation, leadership, and equitable distribution of benefits for marginalized communities specifically women, youth, and persons with disabilities within Lao PDR’s climate and carbon market agenda. This initiative includes mentorship programs, national workshops, awareness events, and integration of GEDSI-sensitive indicators into strategy documents. The scope of activities to be undertaken includes, but not limited to:

• Undertake research and stakeholder consultations on integrating GEDSI into national carbon market policies and strategies and
• Prepare GEDSI advisory note on mainstreaming GEDSI considerations into the selected project developers in the National Article 6 Pipeline of Lao PDR
• Support coordination of mentorship program, awareness events, and GEDSI roundtable; coordinate logistics, prepare materials, and support participant communication.
• Support stakeholder engagement with Lao Women’s Union, Lao Youth Union, PWD organizations, universities, and CSOs.
• Conduct research and assist in drafting content on GEDSI integration into carbon markets.
• Provide administrative support, including scheduling, documentation, and meeting minutes.
• Other tasks relevant to the work on GEDSI and carbon markets in the GGGI Lao PDR office.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s program, or currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in economics, public administration, environmental studies, gender studies, development studies, or related fields; OR
• Be a recent graduate (within 12 months) at the time of application.
• Strong interest in climate policy, carbon markets, gender equality, disability inclusion, or sustainable development.
• Experience in youth engagement, community activities, or volunteer programs is an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability in research, writing, or event coordination is an advantage.
• Possess an excellent command of English; proficiency in Lao is an advantage.

SELECTION PROCESS

• GGGI evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.
• Due to high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa if needed. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.

Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
