The ASEAN Secretariat was established in 1976 by the Foreign Minister of ASEAN with basic functions of providing greater efficiency in the coordination of ASEAN organs and for more effective implementation of ASEAN projects and activities. It is also envisioned to be the nerve centre of a strong and confident ASEAN Community that is globally respected for acting in full compliance with its Charter and in the best interest of its people.
In alignment with the ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future and Key Aspirations of the three pillars of the ASEAN Community, namely the ASEAN Political-Security Community, the ASEAN Economic Community and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, supported by the Department of Community and Corporate Affairs, the ASEAN Secretariat is inviting Indonesian Citizens or ASEAN Nationals who are already residing and eligible to work in Indonesia to apply for the position of Agriculture Officer for Food, Agriculture & Forestry Division, ASEAN Economic Community Department.
Remuneration and Benefits:
Successful candidate will be offered a basic salary of IDR 16,835,950 and attractive remuneration package including monthly transportation allowance, outpatient medical reimbursement, hospitalisation & life insurance, annual bonus of a month’s basic salary, and gratuity. Subject to good performance during the probation, the candidate will be offered a fixed term contract of three (3) years, inclusive of the 6-month probationary period.
- Reporting to the Assistant Director (ADR)/Head and Senior Officer (SO) of Food, Agriculture & Forestry Division, the Officer shall be responsible to:
1. Manage, coordinate and support the implementation and monitoring of activities under the assigned working groups/ experts groups under SOM-AMAF, specifically:
- Facilitate and support the implementation and monitoring of activities under the assigned working groups/experts group under SOM-AMAF.
- Represent the ASEAN Secretariat at meetings of relevant ASEAN bodies and other organisations in the food, agriculture and forestry sector.
- Serve as resource person and coordinate the preparation meeting reports.
- Coordinate and prepare responses to queries from ASEAN Member States concerning ASEAN cooperation in food, agriculture and forestry.
2. Provide appropriates technical and administrative support with respect to cooperation in food, agriculture and forestry in the ASEAN region, specifically:
- Maintain records and documentation of the activities, decisions, and initiatives in the development of the regional cooperation in food, agriculture and forestry.
- Coordinate the preparation of background papers reports/updates, and other information materials
- Assist the SOs and ADR in coordinating the outsourcing of technical support required in the implementation of programmes/projects.
- Assist the SOs and ADR in coordinating and managing of agricultural projects managed by FAFD, including liaising with the project stakeholders, conducting project appraisals, monitoring the implementation of project activities, maintaining record project assets, book keepings of the project budget, and drafting related correspondences.
- Coordinate follow up actions arising from decisions and agreements.
3. Manage the technical administrative support to the ASEAN bodies with respect to meetings.
- Pre-meeting activities: preparation and circulation of agenda and relevant documents.; and coordination with the host country.
- During the meeting: coordination of logistics, press releases and protocol matters; provision of rapporteuring support; coordination across committees; recording of key discussions and decisions to ensure institutional memory; documentation of meeting progress and outcomes; and response to informal requests from Member States.
- Post-meeting activities: coordination of follows up actions, decisions and agreements.
4. Support the SOs and ADR in undertaking the administrative and substantive work of the Division and perform other duties as may be assigned by them or higher authorities.

- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent degree) with strong academic qualifications in Food, Agriculture and Forestry or relevant policy area; and/or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two (2) years of working experience in research, agriculture/food policy development and negotiation, and in working closely with government officials.
- Demonstrated knowledge and policy, research and technical skills in the relevant area and the ability to acquire them;
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organise tasks and work flows, with proven ability for accuracy under pressure and adherence to deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, monitor and review policy and procedures.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative work practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with stakeholders.
- Very good oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills, including experience in cross-cultural environment and international settings.
- Proven skills in problem solving in a complex organisational environment and in work planning.
- Ability to multi-task, work long and irregular hours, perform tasks outside the usual job scope, and willingness to travel frequently on short notice.
- Good command of English, written and spoken.
- Competency in computer skills with adequate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook where relevant to the position.
