The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) is an intergovernmental organization which strives to advance the scientific understanding of marine ecosystems and provide information and advice on sustainable use of the seas. The ICES Secretariat is in central Copenhagen, Denmark and has a staff of approximately 80 people. This workplace has an international and social atmosphere, with employees coming from an array of different national backgrounds.
ICES is seeking a student assistant who, along with other administrative tasks, will assist with the 2026 and 2027 Annual Science Conferences (ASC); a four-day long conference that has hundreds of attendees from around the world joining in person and virtually. The student assistant will work closely with the Conference and Training Coordinator, the communications team and the science department.

This is a paid student role, and the working hours are 15 hours per week. This position will be established with an initial duration of 1 year. You should have at least a year left of your education still to complete. A Danish full-time work permit is also required.
ICES Secretariat staff enjoy privileges and immunities pursuant to the Host Agreement between the Government of Denmark and ICES. The salaries of ICES staff are exempt from Danish income tax and are based on, but not identical to, the United Nations common salary system. The salary for this role is situated at the “C1" grade. You will be enrolled in a tax-free pension scheme to which both the employee and ICES contribute.
