Org. Setting and Reporting
The temporary position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS). The key role of the Field Security Assistant is to provide specialized security support to ensure the safety and security of staff and premises. The overall purpose of this post is the provision of specialized security service support, coordination and timely advice to ensure safety and security of staff and premises in field mission. The temporary position is based in Santo Domingo. The incumbent will report to the UNSOH Chief Security Officer and/or his designate.
Responsibilities
Within limits of delegated authority and depending on location, the Field Security Assistant, GS-6 will perform the following tasks: • Assists the Chief Security Adviser/Chief Security Officer in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation in the Area of Responsibility (AoR): • Liaises and coordinates, as appropriate, with the host government security organizations and/or personnel, including national and local provincial authorities, military, and police officers, as well as non-governmental organizations in the area of operation; • Helps to assess the security situation at the duty station and ensures adequate gathering and verification of security information that may be required for a proper analysis of the situation; • Communicates information on security issues to the heads of United Nations agencies and provides host country security advice to UNDSS, as required; • Maintains regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN agencies; • May be requested to provide technical assistance at Area/Security Management Team meetings. • Assists in maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists: • Helps in the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan; • Supports actions during the implementation of the Security Plan, as required. • Assists with the monitoring of the security measures implementation as recommended in the Security Risks Management (SRM) process for the AoR. • Assists in reporting security incidents affecting UN staff, offices and assets, and assists in the preparation of security reports, such as the Security Incident Report and other Security Assessments. • Provides support in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness and providing security orientation to newly assigned staff members. • Provides support in conducting security evaluations and provides advice on Residential Security Measures of UN staff, as well as on latest trends and threats to staff safety and security; • Establishes and maintains warden system and keeps update of information related to UN offices and residences; • Maintains liaison with commercial companies used for UN security at offices and residences in order to facilitate the effective and efficient use of the private security guards. • Provides general administrative assistance: • Maintains routine and confidential correspondence files/documents; • Maintains a database on contact details of host country security authorities; • Arranges appointments, receives visitors, places and screens telephone calls with discretion, and takes minutes and/or notes at meeting. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job - Specific Qualification
Training in military or police procedures and practices is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in responsible professional experience with a local, national or private police, security or fire brigade organization is required. With relevant first level university degree or higher, a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with a local, national or private police, security or fire brigade organization. Experience in the use of Microsoft applications i.e. Word, Excel Access and Powerpoint is required. Prior experience in delivering on the functions of an Assistant Security Officer or equivalent position within any UNSMS organization is desirable. Completion of the UNDSS FSA / LSA Course is desirable.

Special Notice
This temporary job opening is being advertised for advance planning purposes pending formal approval of the relevant funding and staffing structures. An appointment may be terminated, or post level adjusted in accordance with the Staff Rules for such reasons as abolition of post or reduction of staff or committee funding approvals, for example in the event that the funding for the post is not approved or the mandate of the mission is not extended.
