Duties and Responsibilities
The Partnerships Unit (PU) is the licensing, audience intelligence, and marketing unit in the News and Media Division (NMD). The team's work includes rights management, renewals, and technical delivery of NMD-produced content; collection and analysis of audience intelligence that guides editorial planning and inform leadership on market trends; and supplying distribution-ready promotional toolkits for NMD products and services. The team also represents the Division at high-level events, conferences, local and international media markets. This internship is located in the Partnerships Unit, Digital and Promotion Branch (DPB), News and Media Division (NMD), Department of Global Communications (DGC). The Intern reports to the Chief of the Unit. Under the supervision of the Chief of Unit, the intern will: - Research and identify more strategic approaches to presenting UN content, helping make it more accessible and engaging for diverse global audiences - Provide assistance on various projects, from contributing ideas during an initial phase to putting those ideas into action and following up with action plans - Research and analyze available data on UN media products and services, its current and potential audiences, and developing a Division-wide communication strategy which aims to increase reach and impact - Research, analyze, and report information on assigned topics/issues from diverse sources
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must also: -Be computer literate in standard software applications - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. A completed online application (Cover Note and Personal History Profile) is required. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. The Cover Note must include: • Degree Programme (What are you currently studying) • Graduation Date (When will you graduate or when did you graduate from the programme) • Explain why you are the best candidate for this specific internship • Explain your interest in the United Nations Internship Programme In your online Personal History Profile, be sure to include all past work experiences, IT skills, and three references. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Do you meet the above criteria? Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office applications required. Demonstrated proficiency in using online and offline research tools is required. Familiarity with the use of artificial intelligence tools in a professional context is desirable. Familiarity with HTML, presentation software/platforms is desirable. Experience in digital marketing and distribution, public relations, communications, information studies, journalism, broadcast media, or related fields (paid or unpaid) is desirable. Experience with public sector institutions, international organizations, NGOs, or academic institutions is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
