Job Summary
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), through its Africa Regional Office, is seeking a communications Consultant to support the dissemination strategy of the Strengthening Food Systems for Youth project. This consultancy will ensure that project findings are communicated effectively to policymakers, regional bodies, practitioners, youth networks, and the general public.
This is a 10‑month consultancy, and the consultant will be based remotely in Nairobi, Kenya.
Essential Duties
Develop and package knowledge products (policy briefs, blogs, infographics, WhatsApp summaries, digital stories).
Organize events and produce post‑event materials (summaries, highlights, synthesis notes).
Manage social media campaigns and support website updates to ensure consistent visibility.
Design communication materials (flyers, banners, brochures, templates).
Support organization and coverage of roundtables, webinars, conferences, and Fireside Chats.
Coordinate with youth networks and youth‑led organizations to expand outreach.
Track communication metrics (downloads, social engagement, citations, policy uptake).
Ensure gender and youth sensitivity across all communication outputs.
Make communications more accessible and attractive for youth.
Leverage youth networks and youth‑led organizations to amplify dissemination.
Introduce innovative formats such as Fireside Chats to make exchanges more lively and interactive.
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in communications for development, preferably in agriculture/food systems.
Proven ability to produce youth‑friendly and accessible content.
Strong writing and editing skills; Fluency in English.
Experience with digital tools, social media campaigns, and visual storytelling.
Familiarity with regional and international development organizations.
Ability to work independently and coordinate with diverse partners.
