Duties and Responsibilities
Background The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), through its Technology Centre (ETC), is leading a portfolio of initiatives aimed at accelerating the digital transformation and internationalization of micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across the Arab region. These efforts include two flagship projects—the Regional Training Programme on Green Technologies & Business Models, BRI and eCAP initiatives—which provide tailored e-commerce training, digital toolkits, and access to regional marketplaces and events. In addition, ESCWA is implementing complementary activities such as the Arab SMEs Summit (ASMES) and interactive knowledge-sharing toolboxes. The data analysis & web development assistant will help coordinate ETC’s MSME-focused programmes and events and support daily operations through technical assistance, data management, and digital engagement, contributing to entrepreneurship and innovation across the Arab region. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Data Analysis, Insights, and Reporting: Collect, clean, validate, and analyze data from ETC platforms, APIs, and programme activities using SQL, Excel, Python, and R. Produce analytical reports, performance indicators, and data-driven insights to support programme monitoring, evaluation, and strategic decision-making. 2. Dashboard Development and Business Intelligence: Support the design, development, and maintenance of interactive dashboards using Tableau and Power BI. Integrate data from MySQL databases and API endpoints to visualize programme performance, user engagement, MSME participation, and digital platform usage, and provide guidance to internal stakeholders on dashboard interpretation and use. 3. Web Development and Front-End Integration: Support the development and maintenance of web interfaces built with Angular 18, ensuring seamless integration with backend services developed in NestJS 11. Focus on data presentation, user experience, responsive design, and accurate rendering of API-driven content across ETC platforms. 4. Backend Data Services and API Support: Support backend services built on NestJS (Node.js) with a focus on data access layers, RESTful API design, and reliable integration with MySQL 8.0.43. Assist in testing, validating, and documenting APIs to ensure consistent data exchange between platforms, dashboards, and front-end applications. 5. Data Pipelines, Quality Assurance, and Troubleshooting: Assist in monitoring data pipelines and platform data flows, identifying data inconsistencies, synchronization issues, and API-related errors. Support troubleshooting efforts by analyzing logs, API responses, and database queries to maintain data accuracy, integrity, and availability. 6. Visualization, UI, and Digital Content Development: Contribute to the creation of data-driven visualizations, web components, and communication materials using Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, HTML, and CSS. Integrate design assets from Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch to ensure clear, user-friendly presentation of analytical outputs and platform content. 7. Platform Analytics, Digital Engagement, and Email Campaigns: Support analytics and reporting for ETC digital platforms and communication channels, including DEPAR social media and email campaigns. Assist with the development and execution of HTML/CSS-based email campaigns using tools such as Mailchimp or SendGrid, monitor engagement metrics, and support automation and data-driven outreach strategies in compliance with data protection regulations. The individual contractor will also support coordination and documentation of consultation meetings related to the above activities, including preparation of analytical briefs, summaries, and data-backed presentations.
