Duties and Responsibilities
This International Individual Contractor (IC) position is located in the Aviation Section (JMAOC) of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), with the duty station in Mogadishu, Somalia.Under the delegated authority of the Chief Aviation Officer and the direct overall supervision of the Chief Air Operations Officer, the Individual Contractor will carry out the following duties: • Monitors and support JMAOC to ensure that air operations are conducted in compliance with Air Tasking Orders (ATOs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), UN directives, Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO)/Department of Field Support (DFS) Aviation Manual, UN Aviation Standards for Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Air Transport Operations (UN AVSTADS), UN Aviation Safety Manual, ICAO standards and recommended practices and the host country's Aeronautical Information Publications (AIPs). • Receive and reviews Air Tasking Requests and ensures that the most suitable air asset(s) is/are assigned to a task to achieve the maximum safety, cost efficiency and effectiveness in the development of Daily Flight Schedule and aviation operational risk management. • Verifies the daily projected Air Tasking Orders (ATOs) for conformance and compliance with the requested tasks, resolves conflicting priorities and ensures that ATOs are published and communicated to all relevant elements in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines. • Manages routine (regular passenger/cargo, logistics resupply) flights, special (casualty and medical evacuation, VIP) flights, military operational flights. • Supervise flight following (Alpha Base), flight tracking management, activation of Combat Seach Rescue and coordination with ATMIS FHQ in Quick reaction force activation. • Assist in aviation contract and crew management, monitoring utilization of UN air assets, • Assist in AUR and AIMS processing including preparation of monthly reports and relevant statistical data. • Assist in Aviation QMS program and its implementation. • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Aviation Officer
Qualifications/special skills
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Training and certification as a Commercial Pilot, or a Flight Operations Officer/Flight Dispatcher, or an Aircraft Maintenance Technician, or a Ground Operations Officer, or an equivalent military qualification is required. Training in the safety and quality management is desirable. Training as an aviation internal auditor is desirable. A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in air transport operations or aviation safety is required. A drivers license is required

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the positions advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
