Mission and objectives

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that supports human development globally by promoting volunteerism and by mobilizing volunteers. It is administered by UNDP and operates amidst growing recognition that volunteerism makes important contributions, economically and socially, to more cohesive societies by building trust and reciprocity among citizens. The UNV Regional Offices (RO) provide oversight and strategic guidance to the UNV Field Units in their respective geographical assignments and are mainly accountable for the placement of UN Volunteers mobilized for UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes focused on peace, development, and humanitarian needs. The Regional Offices also lead in scoping and delivering UNV’s advisory service offer on volunteer infrastructure. The Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) is based in Amman, Jordan. In December 2023, through Resolution A/RES/78/127, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2026 as the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026) and UNV has been invited to facilitate the initiative.

Context

IVY 2026 serves as a strategic global initiative to recognize and celebrate the contributions of volunteers worldwide, acknowledge the essential role of stakeholders in advancing volunteerism, and increase the visibility of volunteer efforts. It aims to inspire greater volunteering activities, strengthen the role of volunteerism in driving sustainable development, raise global awareness of the impact of volunteers, and mobilize individuals, communities, and institutions to take action for positive change throughout 2026 and beyond. To support IVY 2026 regional efforts, the selected Online Volunteer (OV) will play a key role in developing the IVY 2026 designing digital and outreach material to raise awareness and enhance the visibility of IVY 2026 in the Arab States Region. These visual materials will help draw public attention to the year-long celebration, promote volunteer stories, and encourage meaningful action from individuals and organizations, while supporting UN Volunteers (UNV) and partners by showcasing volunteer impact and strengthening online engagement. Through their contributions, Online Volunteers will play a key role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 17, by inspiring participation in volunteer-driven initiatives that promote sustainable development nationwide.

Task Description

We are looking for 3 Online Volunteers. Under the guidance of the IVY 2026 Regional Coordinator for the Arab States, each volunteer is expected to create 10 social media cards, 4 templates, and 2 videos tailored for diverse audiences. - Develop social media content, templates, and visually engaging materials for IVY 2026 and related regional initiatives, aligned with UNV’s communication strategy and IVY 2026’s mission. - Draft captions, short posts, key messages, and storytelling excerpts. - Use the Trello board and its pre-drafted key messages as a basis for content creation. - Translate the IVY 2026 Trello Board into French. - Share finalized content across personal social media platforms. Selected Online Volunteers will be provided with information and material relevant and necessary to perform the task.
