Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. After the 2006 July War, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) initiated its Country Programme in Lebanon, responding to emerging issues through housing reconstruction, shelter provision and upgrading basic services, while laying the foundation for long-term sustainable solutions by means of urban profiling (including neighbourhood profiling) and other research, as well as urban policy analyses. UN-Habitat Lebanon has been working effectively with partners and urban planning actors at the community, national and international levels for the past 15 years to develop and implement programmes and interventions that contribute to the achievement of the targets of Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. The intern will be working with the Operations team and directly reporting to the Administrative Officer, under the oversight of the Head of the Country Programme. Responsibilities Support the UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme in promoting an active social media presence: X, Facebook and Instagram and any other platform as advised. • Monitor the inboxes of the UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme social media accounts and propose responses as appropriate. • Ensure follow up as appropriate on social media platforms on activities of the UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme. • Follow UN-Habitat corporate social media platforms and communications, disseminating and sharing when relevant at country level. • Assist UN-Habitat Lebanon colleagues in-house on writing stories from field visits, interviewing beneficiaries, responding to social media requests, propose social media campaigns that showcase the work of UN-Habitat. • Support in drafting a variety of communication documents on behalf of UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme, including web stories, press-releases, e-mails, letters, messaging and outreach material. • Support updating the filing system of high-quality resolution photos of UN-Habitat work to be used for communication, advocacy and visibility purposes. • Provide communication, organization and logistical support at UN-Habitat projects and events. • Provide assistance in editing, reviewing of reports and translations. • Perform any other tasks as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Final year of a bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled in a Master’s program or have graduated at most one year ago in the field of communications, public relations, international relations, journalism, marketing, advertising, or any related field is required. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
