Job Description

Mission and objectives

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Context

From 25 November to 10 December 2025, the global community will observe the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence under the theme: “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.” This year’s campaign highlights the urgent need to address digital violence—a rapidly growing form of abuse that disproportionately affects women and girls, especially those with public visibility or facing intersecting forms of discrimination. Digital violence includes image-based abuse, cyberbullying, online harassment, deepfake pornography, doxxing, stalking, grooming, and misogynistic online networks. These acts often lead to real-life harm, including coercion, physical violence, and femicide. Despite its prevalence, digital abuse remains difficult to combat due to weak regulation, lack of legal recognition, anonymity of perpetrators, and limited support systems for survivors. The 2025 UNiTE campaign builds on recent global progress, including the adoption of the UN Cybercrime Convention, the Global Digital Compact, and regional frameworks such as 'African Union’s Convention on Ending Violence against Women and Girls' and the 'EU’s Digital Services Act'. It calls for coordinated action from governments, tech companies, donors, and individuals to criminalize digital violence, ensure platform safety, invest in feminist and digital rights organizations, and promote survivor support. As part of this global movement, UN Women Türkiye will launch a digital artivism campaign centered on the theme “Ending Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls”, anchored in the message “Virtual Violence is Real Violence.” The campaign emphasizes collective responsibility, engaging all actors, including men and boys, to prevent abuse, take action, and end impunity and invisibility in digital spaces.
