Internships
The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).
The purpose of the programme is:
To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;
To benefit the IAEA's programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.
The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.
Organizational Setting
The Director General's Office (DGO) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States' needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.
The Office of Public Information and Communication (OPIC) plays a vital role in advancing the IAEA's mission by delivering objective, accurate, and timely information about the Agency and global nuclear developments. Through strategic communication efforts, OPIC fosters public understanding of the safe, secure, and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology, as well as the IAEA's global roles.
OPIC advises the Director General on media relations, organizes press briefings and interviews, develops digital platforms and campaigns, and coordinates communication activities across the Agency. It supports major IAEA events and conferences by managing media engagement, creative content production and ensures effective internal communication within the organization. The Office also manages the Agency's Visitor Centre and related outreach activities to attract and engage visitors.
The Web, Digital Media and Public Information Materials Section, operating under OPIC, holds corporate responsibility for editorial oversight, content creation, digital media outreach and campaigns, and the development of information products. It manages the Agency's platforms for both internal and external communication, as well as the Seibersdorf Visitor Centre (SVC). The Section plays a key role in enhancing the IAEA's visibility and public engagement by producing high-quality web and social media content in multiple languages, including public information campaigns, graphic design, and outreach to educational institutions for guided tours of the SVC. Through strong corporate branding and compelling storytelling, it supports the Agency's communication objectives and strengthens public awareness and understanding of the IAEA's mission and activities.
