In line with this mission, NORCAP is partnering with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), which plays a critical role in supporting peace and stability in a complex post-conflict environment. UNMISS is actively working to counter the growing threats posed by misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech (MDH), which undermine peace efforts and endanger lives. The mission is guided by the United Nations Global Principles for Information Integrity, launched in 2024, which promote coordinated international action to make information spaces safer and more humane.
To support this vital work, NORCAP is seeking an experienced Information Integrity Officer to join the Communications and Public Information Section of UNMISS in Juba, South Sudan for a one-year assignment with possible extension.
Role and Responsibilities
As the Information Integrity Officer, you will take on the following responsibilities:
- Coordinate the UNMISS Information Integrity Working Group and support mission-wide strategies to monitor and respond to Misinformation, Disinformation and Hate speech (MDH) threats.
- Design and implement research methodologies to assess risks to information integrity across online and offline platforms.
- Identify and catalogue incidents and patterns of misinformation, disinformation, hate speech, and threats.
- Conduct fact-checking and open-source research to support strategic responses.
- Use analytics tools to collect, analyse, and report on information integrity risks.
- Prepare reports, briefs, and presentations using data visualisation to inform internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to communication and advocacy strategies that promote information integrity and mitigate reputational risks.
- Build and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen information integrity efforts.
Qualifications and Experience
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Advanced university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications or related field.
- Minimum seven years of experience in strategic communications, including in post-conflict or crisis environments.
- Proven expertise in addressing MDH threats and promoting information integrity.
- Experience from UN agencies or other multinational organisations.
- Strong skills in project coordination, media monitoring tools, and digital media platforms.
- Ability to analyse large volumes of structured and unstructured data and present findings effectively.
