In line with this mission, NORCAP is partnering with the African Union (AU), a continental body established to promote unity, solidarity, and sustainable development across Africa. The AU’s Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department (PAPS), through its Mediation and Dialogue Division (MDD), plays a pivotal role in supporting preventive diplomacy, mediation, dialogue, and reconciliation efforts across the continent.

To strengthen these efforts, NORCAP is seeking a Senior Mediation & Dialogue Officer to join the AU’s team in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This is a one-year assignment reporting to the Head of the Mediation and Dialogue Division.

Role and Responsibilities

As the Senior Mediation & Dialogue Officer, you will take on the following responsibilities:

• Provide technical support and expertise on mediation and dialogue processes, including design and facilitation, with a focus on inclusive and gender-sensitive approaches
• Support national actors and Member States in convening multistakeholder dialogues and reconciliation efforts
• Monitor political and regional dynamics to assess their impact on peace processes
• Assist AU mediators and teams during field missions, workshops, and stakeholder engagements to foster trust and understanding
• Offer guidance on related areas such as election processes, P/CVE, DDR, and SSR during mediation efforts
• Facilitate training for national stakeholders and civil society groups, including underrepresented communities
• Document and manage knowledge related to mediation and dialogue processes for learning and dissemination
• Promote the active participation of women and youth in peacebuilding initiatives
• Build and maintain partnerships with national, regional, and international organisations involved in mediation and dialogue

Kindly note that this role is with the African Union and is therefore restricted to valid passport-holding nationals of AU member states.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Master’s degree in Peace & Security Studies, Conflict Studies, Political Science, Law, or related fields, with at least 7 years of relevant experience (or a Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mediation, conflict prevention, peacebuilding, or political affairs
• Proven experience supporting mediation or dialogue processes
• Familiarity with AU or Regional Economic Communities/Regional Mechanisms RECs/RMs mediation structures is desirable
• Experience in promoting gender and youth inclusion in peace and security work
