Position purpose

The Senior Banker, Energy and Infrastructure Department (DEI) actively contributes to the business origination and development of debt and equity transactions (along with the full spectrum of transaction complexity) in the Energy and Infrastructure sectors in the Bank’s countries of operations. The Senior Banker, DEI ensures the effective implementation and monitoring of his/her project portfolio in alignment with the Bank’s operational objectives.

Key functions and Responsibilities

The Senior Banker, DEI, under the direct supervision of the DEI Team Director and/or his/her appointed representative, leads operation teams to ensure efficient processing of deal flow and portfolio monitoring. The Senior Banker, DEI builds and maintains relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in relation to business development, project execution, implementation and monitoring.

Under the supervision of the Director, DEI, the Senior Banker will be responsible for the following duties:

Business Development:

  • Drive marketing and business development to build and maintain Energy and Infrastructure sector market connections, ensuring a strong pipeline of opportunities.
  • Represent the Bank by fostering relationships with senior Energy and Infrastructure business leaders, investors, and government officials.
  • Assess project proposals to identify viable investments aligned with the Bank’s mandate and targets.

Structuring and Execution:

  • Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of Energy and Infrastructure sector transactions, ensuring collaboration with stakeholders and successful deal execution.
  • Oversee the operation due diligence processes to align with the Bank’s standards and requirements.
  • Manage operation team resources and workloads effectively.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality structuring and execution of transactions, adhering to the Bank’s policies and objectives.

Portfolio Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Assume overall responsibility for the effective monitoring of the assigned operations, including leading the supervision and maintenance of the client relationship management and manage any monitoring related issues in cooperation with the relevant Department.
  • Participation in Working Groups as may be required.

Policy Formulation and Relationship Building

  • Contribute to the Bank’s policy dialogue efforts in the Energy and Infrastructure sectors.
  • Contribute to the Bank’s internal policy / regulation development as may be requested.
  • Provide necessary support in developing relationships with governmental, regional and local authorities, international and local business communities.

Required knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • First-level University degree or equivalent in Economics, Business Administration, Finance or other related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of project finance/corporate finance fundamentals and processes.
  • At least 8 years of relevant working experience gained in: i) corporate/project finance or structured finance within the finance group/department of a commercial or development bank or a major international investor/merchant; or ii) an international corporation or institution having BSTDB sector specialty.
  • Ability to provide high level support to senior staff.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and have excellent Microsoft Office Skills

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Economics, Business Administration, Finance or other major allowing for competence to deal efficiently and confidently with quantitative financing and risk-related aspects.
  • Professional certifications such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA
  • Solid credit skills are highly desirable.
  • Relevant experience in an international development financial institution.
  • Relevant experience in the region of the BSTDB’s operations.

For a candidate to participate in the competitive selection for this position, s/he must meet at least the following minimum requirements:

  • First-level University degree or equivalent in Economics, Business Administration, Finance or other related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant working experience gained in: i) corporate/project finance or structured finance within the finance group/department of a commercial or development bank or a major international investor/merchant; or ii) an international corporation or institution having BSTDB sector specialty.
