ILO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for talented individuals to:
(a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;
(b) gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.
The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

IMPORTANT:

The position is placed under the Communications department of the Labour Administration and Working Conditions cluster. The department plays key roles in ensuring the projects’ visibility, showcasing success, developing content for multiple channels, guiding, and supporting in producing programme communications materials, organizing high-level events, developing, and implementing campaigns, and managing media relations. In coordination with ILO Country Office and other clusters, LAWC communications extends support to other programmes as and when necessary. LAWC’s Advancing Decent Work in Bangladesh project, funded by the Team Europe Initiative of European Union, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden, and by Canada requires continuous communications support with multiple priorities. The department also supports the projects’ donor reporting, knowledge management, website, Facebook, and X handles. The department works as the gatekeeper for branding, quality checking, and quality assurance of communications materials while maintaining ILO and development partners’ branding, finance, and procurement compliances.
As an intern in the Communications Department, you will gain hands on experience of how communications in development cooperation-funded project run in ILO. You will be working with multiple technical areas under the supervision of the Senior Programme Officer, Communications.
Typical task areas may include:
⦁ Content production: Assist in the production of audio-visual content for social media, including short videos, interviews, and photo stories.
⦁ Graphic design: Design and produce communications materials such as social media cards, banners, infographics, and brochures using design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
⦁ Event support: Provide logistical and communications support for internal and external events, including workshops, conferences, dialogues, and so no. This includes developing event ToR drafts, promotional materials development, collect bytes from event participants, social media promotion of events and so on.
⦁ Media monitoring & reporting: Track and report on media mentions and social media engagement related to our campaigns and key thematic areas.
⦁ Communications materials production: Support the supervisor in developing high-quality communications materials including awareness items, success stories (AV), photo stories to showcase the cluster’s success.
⦁ Knowledge management: to maintain communications repository on ILO SharePoint.
Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.
A bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, International Relations, or a related field.
⦁ The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago (mandatory)
Communications tools and media skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Bangla.
adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.

Selection process:
If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the field office for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.
Stipend:
As an intern in the field, you will receive a monthly stipend from the ILO based on the cost of living in the area of the duty station, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipend per month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense.
Insurance:
Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
