ILO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for talented individuals to:
(a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;
(b) gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.
The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

IMPORTANT:

The “Labour administration and working condition” cluster of ILO consists of 5 components, one of which is child labour. The main objective of this component is to support the Government of Bangladesh to eliminate child labour from the country as per SDG target no 8.7. The ILO, as the leading UN agency for establishing Decent Work, aims to ensure that it serves the needs of working women and men by bringing together governments, employers and workers to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes. Two of the fundamental labour standards are Convention 138 and Convention 182 which promotes elimination of child labour. Guided by these two Conventions, the Child labour component aims to work with Government, employers, workers and stakeholders to promote elimination of child labour. Beside promotion, the LAWC cluster is also working to protect the wellbeing of the child labourers as well as to support the law enforcement agency for better inspection and improved prosecution of cases under Labour Laws.
As an intern in Child Labour Component, under LAWC cluster, you will be exposed to a whole range of areas such as inspection of child labour by department of Inspection for factories and establishment, enforcement (DIFE) of Labour laws and case management system at DIFE.

You would be gaining experience in working with specialists who are involved in the following tasks e.g. supervising the area of child labour, Working as international specialists in the South Asian region, Enforcing laws as Government officials, working in Labour courts etc.
The intern shall be asked to perform mainly the following tasks.
⦁ To document the case management flow of child labour related cases filed by DIFE officials in selected years.
⦁ To document number of cases in each labour court
⦁ To document the verdict of child labour related cases
⦁ To monitor prosecution of selected cases
⦁ To report on the sectors of cases against employers/parents of child labourers
⦁ To perform any other duties under the child labour component
The intern should expect to spend considerable time working with DIFE officials at DIFE office.

Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.
4 years LL.B honours. LL.M is an added advantage.
⦁ The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago (mandatory)
Any relevant work experience in legal research work and report writing. knowledge of IT would be an advantage
Working (both oral and written) knowledge of at least one of the ILO’s official languages (English, French, Spanish) Ability to write good quality report is mandatory.
Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.

Selection process:

Stipend:
As an intern in the field, you will receive a monthly stipend from the ILO based on the cost of living in the area of the duty station, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipend per month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense.
Insurance:
Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
