Our Family and Child Connect program is a free service for all families, and we’re looking for an inspired, trauma-informed and experienced leader. You’ll guide our amazing staff to support carers, who have a range of family and parenting challenges, to:

  • build better family relationships
  • manage their child or teenager’s behaviour
  • stop any violence at home
  • budget and manage money
  • address alcohol, drug or gambling problems
  • access housing, health care or access to other community or government services

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities. From our programs to our support services - this is the place to realise your purpose.

A place to make a difference:

In this full-time, maximum term role (through to end of December 2026, with potential for extension) based in Mount Isa (with travel as detailed below), you’ll lead our team of practitioners in the Family and Child Connect Program. As part of our Queensland Programs team, you’ll report to the Regional Manager.

You will make a difference by:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operational and administrative requirements of the Family and Child Connect Program, including the Local Level Alliance and the Family Integrated Case Management services
  • Leading services in remote locations, from Richmond in NWQ up to Mornington Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria
  • Leading a team of practitioners throughout all stages of the employee lifecycle, including provision of expert support and advice in Supervision sessions
  • Role modelling and facilitating a learning culture by proactively maintaining knowledge of relevant research, programmatic themes and opportunities to enhance team skills and capability

A place to feel valued:

You’re an enthusiastic and committed leader who understands that children’s right to safety, survival, development and participation is core to the way we work. You’re active, creative and flexible in your approach to working with families and children, using a trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally sensitive framework within communities and when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You have the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with external organisations at all levels, and you can supervise, coach and mentor others with an empathetic approach.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience working with children and families, particularly families experiencing family and domestic violence
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Social Work, Community Development etc) or significant equivalent experience

A place to belong:

At 54 reasons, we invest in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 600 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

It takes all types of people to do the challenging work we do. We are diverse personalities, backgrounds and talents, embracing our differences as one strong and united team. We see and celebrate the unique value you bring to our organisation, and offer a range of rewards for your effort, including:

  • Support for workplace wellness, including access to our free, confidential Employee Wellbeing Program
