1.     Organizational Context

 

 

a.    Organizational Setting

 

The post is located in the Office of the Assistant Director General (ADG), IP and Innovation Ecosystems Sector (IES). This Sector is entrusted with a wide mandate to coordinate internally with the four vertical and relevant horizontal sectors as well as externally with a diverse array of stakeholders, such as governments, businesses, innovators, academia, researchers, policy makers, judiciary, arbitration and mediation professionals, etc. to effectively promote the use of IP in the framework of innovation and creativity ecosystems. The project team oversees the timely and effective implementation of projects of strategic importance for IES, as requested by Member States.

 

b.    Purpose Statement

 

The main role of the incumbent is to manage internal projects and external relations with stakeholders while providing analysis and recommendations on specific processes. Additionally, the incumbent will conduct research and analysis and prepare and/or contribute to reports and briefing material on issues related to intellectual property and innovation and creativity ecosystems.

 

c.     Reporting Lines

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of a Senior Counsellor at the Office of the ADG.

 

d.    Work Relations

 

The incumbent works in close cooperation with colleagues within the IP and Innovation Ecosystems Sector, and in coordination with colleagues in other Sectors, as well as interact with innovation stakeholders outside the Organization as needed.

 

2.     Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

 

a.   Coordinate with cross-functional teams for the planning, monitoring and delivery of internal projects, ensuring that project milestones are met on time and within budget. Ensure the maintenance of accurate records and documentation and prepare detailed reports for senior management or other stakeholders.

 

b.   Conduct comprehensive research on intellectual property issues affecting innovation and creativity ecosystems, and analyze trends, developments and data. Prepare research reports and briefs.

 

c.   Propose and develop targeted and impactful projects designed to address the needs of Member States and stakeholders.

 

d.   Prepare materials, talking points and drafts for speeches for the ADG and ensure the collection and compilation of information for this purpose.

 

e.   Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment.

 

f.    Assist in developing and implementing project management frameworks and methodologies.

 

g.   Develop and present recommendations to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

 

h.   Advise on and support the planning, execution, and monitoring of the Spanish Funds in Trust and prepare periodic reports.

 

i.    Represent the Organization at conferences, meetings, and events.

 

j.    Perform other related duties as required.

 

3.     Requirements

 

Education (Essential)

First-level university degree in business management, public policy, governance, economics, finance, or in a related field.

 

Education (Desirable)

Certification in project management methodologies.

Advanced university degree in a relevant field.

 

Experience (Essential)

At least six years of relevant professional experience in project or program management, stakeholder management and administration or a related field, of which at least two in an international organization. 

Experience in working with intellectual property.

Experience in conducting comprehensive research, creating reports, and presenting proposals.

 

Experience (Desirable)

Working experience with the private sector on implementing innovation solutions is desirable.

 

Language (Essential)

Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken).

 

Language (Desirable)

Good knowledge of Spanish (written and spoken).

Very good command of Office suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and related business and communications tools.

5.     Information

Annual salary:

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.  Please note that this estimate is for information only.  The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice.  The figures quoted below are based on the September 2025 rate of 90.5%

Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.

Additional Information

Temporary appointments are renewable, subject to continuing needs, availability of budget and satisfactory performance with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
