The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill a 6-months internship position in the Government Partnerships unit of the WFP Global Office Germany. The position will be based in Berlin, Germany.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION:

The Government Partnerships unit of the Global Office in Berlin supports organization-wide efforts to meet the resource needs at corporate and country levels through active engagement with the government and public sector institutions in Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein; enables accurate contribution forecasting and efficient contribution registration and develops and expands resource partnerships in this context in collaboration with other WFP stakeholders at all levels.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting the review of project proposals for Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein in close exchange with colleagues from WFP Regional Bureaus and Country Offices
  • Assist in drafting briefing documents and background materials for meetings and conferences
  • Updating project overviews, contribution tables, and graphs using relevant data
  • Support with keeping donor counterparts informed on developments of WFP operations
  • Assist in drafting internal and external emails and letters, as well as official correspondence
  • Taking notes for the record during internal and external meetings and events
  • Preparing weekly highlights on WFP-relevant political developments in Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein and the WFP Berlin Office
  • Maintaining an overview of upcoming events and meetings and supporting in their organization and preparation
  • Supporting the coordination of WFP-internal processes
  • Performing other related duties as required

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university, preferably in political, social, or related studies
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and solid communication skills (written and oral) in German are required. Second UN language would be an asset

  • Strong teamwork skills

SUPERVISION

Under the direct supervision of a Government Partnerships Officer, the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance, and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be an elemental part of the supervision. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and assignment of a buddy/mentor, the intern will rapidly become a productive fully integrated member of the Government Partnerships team in Berlin.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  • Have developed an understanding of WFP’s mandate and work
  • Be familiar with Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein as a donors
  • Be familiar with the structure and content of WFP project proposals
  • Have developed an understanding of WFP’s donor contribution process and cycle

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
  • Only selected candidates will be notified.
